I'm OUT of the hospital

Post by tattooyu » Fri Oct 29, 2010 9:44 am

Last night I got some severe abdominal pain and fever. Thought it was appendicitis. Turns out it's a partial smal bowel obstruction. Fun, fun, fun! Pain is tolerable now. It might clear on its own. Might not. That means surgery. We will see.

The stupid thing is that I have been awake for 26 hours because an outside company has to "check" my CPAP.

Well as I was writing this they came. Checked the plug. That's it. I waited hours for that? Going to get some sleep… finally.

No fun at all!!! I haven't experienced that and truly hope I never do!

My local hospital only needed a script for me to use my cpap when I had to stay overnight a couple of years ago. No one had to check it, thank goodness!!

Hope you get better soon.

That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!!!!!!!!

The hospital should have a CPAP policy, and if they are going to make you wait to use your own machine, they should have machines available that you can use with your own mask. I suggest you file a formal complaint so that they have to do something to fix this policy, in case, G-d forbid, you ever have to be hospitalized again.

Feel better soon, Tat!

Hope you are catching up on your sleep as I'm typing. I hate to hear that you're still having issues. Guessing the doc who did your colonoscopy is following you. Are they discussing trying to use a pillcam to see where the scope couldn't go? Not sure if having a partial obstruction makes that not an option. Sure hope this resolves with minimal intervention, and that you get answers how to prevent future occurences of this and the pain you've previously experienced.

Tell the docs they don't want to have to answer to Jonah, 'cause when it comes to his daddy's well-being, he doesn't play! Oh, how I enjoy seeing that little face when you post! Feel better soon, even if that means you get a few days of solo diaper duty for Mom to catch up on her rest.

Saying prayers Kenny! When Mike had to have emergency surgery after being admitted from the ER, we were offered a cpap machine and mask from the Respiratory Dept. Since we didn't live too far away I opted to drive home and brought back our own equipment. Then I had to "teach" the RNs on duty how ours worked. Just think how happy Jonah will be when you get home!

I don't think I'll ever forget arguing with my father's nurse in ICU about CPAP versus BiPAP. At the time, 15 or so years ago, all she knew were the big BiPAP machines they use in hospitals for something other than OSA. I don't think she had ever even heard of a CPAP machine for home use.

Contrast that to last year where his nurse had just had a PSG herself and gave me a great tip about getting the gunk out of my hair when I had mine the following week (fingernail brush). That hospital does have a policy that facilities (not an outside company, which was probably the problem) has to inspect the machine (just the plug, too) but they must have a dedicated person to do it because they have always been extremely prompt and no sleep was ever lost.

Hope you are feeling better soon, Kenny!

I think I'll call the local hospitals and ask how they handle patient-owned CPAP.
Nice to get their policy in WRITING--just in case. If they are going to be doofuses, maybe there'll be a meeting. . .
Still nice to know in advance--Thank you.
And get well soon; air kisses to the little cutie.
