Swift II has high volume air exhaust
Swift II has high volume air exhaust
The Swift II seems very comfortable, but the leak rate is 8, there seems to be much more air exhaust than the Comfort Classic or Activa. But my AHI is 0.1 to 0.2.
Is it normal/okay for the leak rate to be that high ? Is it true that these pillows exhaust more air than the face masks ?

It maybe about the size of the holes. Just like when you play with a water hose, the water just runs out until you put your thumb over it when it becomes a high pressure spray.

Re: Swift II has high volume air exhaust
I read that, unlike some other machines, the S9 software sets the amount of air that passes through a perfectly fitting mask to zero, so you don't have to subtract the mask leak rate from what the machine reports in order to determine how large a leak due to poor fit actually might be. So if you are recording a leak rate, it's a real leak, and not just the air the mask passes through the relief port.Physician wrote:The Swift II seems very comfortable, but the leak rate is 8, there seems to be much more air exhaust than the Comfort Classic or Activa. Maybe it is an obvious question, but did you change the machine setting to show you are using the Swift II?

What is YOUR leak rate ?

Good question, and the answer is YES. It was changed to PILLOWS. One cannot select "Swift II".
It seems the total VOLUME of exhaust is far greater than the Activa. Do many of you have a leak rate of 5 to 10 with whichever appliance you are using ?

Only at very high pressures should the difference be (maybe) noticeable: http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/documen ... sa_eng.pdf

I am titrated at 12.

Re: Swift II has high volume air exhaust
According to the literature, the leak rate of your mask is about 30 liters/minute at 10" H2O. I'm using the Opus 360 nasal pillows mask, made by F&P. F&P doesn't seem to list the intrinsic leak rate of the Opus 360 mask, so I can't compare the two. However the leak rate reported is always zero unless the mask really is leaking. I know when that happens because the noise of escaping air awakens me.
It's odd that a ResMed machine, running a ResMed mask should report the leak rate of a properly fitting mask as anything but zero. I can understand that might happen if the mask were made by another company, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

According to the chart in the link at 12 cm H2O, the Activa will exhaust 37 lpm and the Swift II will exhaust 40 lpm. You are likely unable to sense the difference.

Re: Swift II has high volume air exhaust
I notice on masks that seem to have smaller exhaust ports (nasal pillows vs. nasal masks or FF masks that have more "real estate" for the vent) the outflow from the vent seems stronger. Could it be that?

Hmmmmmm. Think I'll change to another Swift II because I sense a massive difference, more than 6% for sure.
