No CPAP last night
No CPAP last night
Last night we went to bed at 11pm and i woke up at 12 with no air coming through the hose
My first power failure experience latest until 6am when power was finally restored.
After i took a little walk and realized the outage area was only about a block i settled back into bed without the CPAP
Out of interest i decided to wear my pulse oximeter.
To my surprise my basal level was 94.2 % with only 9 events. I'm suppose to have sleep apnea so whats up with these readings
and i don't feel that bad today (well not yet )

What were your original diagnosis details?

Re: No CPAP last night
The problem is that each of those events lead to a disruption of your sleep architecture - that is you need to awaken just enough to clear the obstruction. It is not something that gets bad all at once - unless it is VERY severe. Rather, you should think of it as a death by a thousand cuts. The first few don't hurt you. But a week with out your CPAP would be noticeable. A month would be unbearable.

Uncle_Bob, I'm wondering if you ever found out exactly when the power went out. I'd be interested in how long it took to wake you up.Uncle_Bob wrote:Last night we went to bed at 11pm and i woke up at 12 with no air coming through the hose

Good idea, to wear the pulse oximeter. Glad the outcome was ok.

Re: No CPAP last night
Over the summer. I hitched up the camper for a weekend outing to meet up with my daughter and her husband for a weekend of fun and adventure. made the reservation two weeks in advance. Made sure it had the site had the ability to provide power so i could use my cpap machine. All the gear was packed we were ready to go. Beautiful sunny day when we arrived. Pulled up to the site. No electricity. My daughter who also ordered a site with electric that was not provided met me at the site and said there was some kind of mistake with their online reservation web site. So i turned the rig around back to the main office to see what could be done.
the bottom line i was out of luck. they refunded me the difference in price and offered me to refund the entire cost if i wanted to leave. My daughter would have been upset if i left so i decided what can one weekend do i lived for years without the machine.
Well the difference was huge. Woke up with sore throat from snoring and a dull morning headache. Took a while to shake off like it always used to. The second night was a mirror of the 1st night. Woke up sore throat and dull headache feeling again. At least it was only a weekend. 3rd nite i was home and the morning after was feeling good no sore throat or headache in the morning after being back on the machine.
I do believe that prolonged non use of the machine will have a steady and profound negative effect on your body before too much time has passed.

Re: No CPAP last night
I had an experience like that once. After that, I decided to get battery back ups for both my husband and myself. Now, if the power goes out, we are all ready to go!

Re: No CPAP last night
I stopped sleeping without my CPAP about 4 months now after my pillar procedure after using the machine religiously for 10 months. I sleep 5 hours during the week and maybe 6-8 hours during the weekend.Mostly stay about 96% SO2 all night with a few drops into the 80's sometimes when I sleep on my back. Yes I wake one or two times a night but I did that with CPAP. Typical days last week slept 5 hours, worked all day then hit the gym for 4 hours, went home slept 5 hours then started a big project at work replacing a raised floor, worked 13 hours then went to my small business where I worked another 3 hours. Was I exhausted after two days? Absolutely not! Went to work Friday feeling good. BTW I have severe sleep apnea AHI 57....
Re: No CPAP last night
Oh well by 3pm i felt tired and lost my focus at work.
I was in bed at 8.30 and slept for 9 hours
DoriC it took about 30-40mins. When i woke i noted the time on my battery powered alarm clock and went to my laptop and downloaded my data. I think it may have taken that long because i had a couple of glasses of wine while we watched a movie.
Time to consider a power backup.

Re: No CPAP last night
I had one doctor tell me he wanted me to take a week off CPAP before a non-CPAP PSG, because there's a carry over from CPAP use. Another doctor said "if you OSA is bad enough, we'll see without such a long break".Uncle_Bob wrote:Oh well by 3pm i felt tired and lost my focus at work.

What battery backup are you using? I assume it will work for 8 hours?
