bipap machine choices

Ok so I put in a search in the archives about bipap machines and had like 8000 posts, I seriously do not have the time or necessary information yet to know what kind of machine to ask for, I am planning on throwing a temper trantrum on the phone Monday so instead of surley responses that direct me to learn for myself could some one that has a more educated opinion please tell me which respironics bipap will have data capabilites and be good to request during my tiraid? Please.

I don't know who you are talking about and I have only asked for advice on the board, so I do not understand your comment.

These are the two most common around here:

BiPap is a Respironics term... recommend a BiPAP Auto or a BiPap Pro if you're going with the Phillips Respironics System One variety (or the RemStar variety).

VPAP is a Resmed term... recommend an S8 VPAP Auto.

Any of the ones listed above are fully data capable.

I use both machines, the Resmed S8 VPAP S 25 for home, and the BiPAP Auto for travel. The Resmed is much smoother to breathe with, but the Respironics machine seems to get me a little lower AHI and seems a little more aggressive in going after events. Both machines have almost impossible to read displays with tiny text, but the Respironics is far harder to read. The blue lights on the Respironics are awful, but I like the 2 piece water tray better. The Resmed doesn't have the power brick like the Respironics has, but I think the air filters on the Respironics are better than on the Resmed. Both machines work well.

Keep in mind that the "blue light" is an M-series Respironics thing (or so I've read). The Phillips Respironics System One's shouldn't have that problem. Respironics has about 3 different models for each of theirs (classic/tank, M-series, and System One's). I can't contrast any of them by anything other than what I've read as all I've used is the one I have.

I liked my PR remstar system one auto bipap. The new ones that are out now do not have the blue light, and they are very quiet.

I have the blue light one, right, John? I don't like it. The three blue lights. The DME swore up and down that they would fade after the machine was on for a while, but they still glow as bright all night long. I can't stand that. I prefer it to be dark. I suppose I could take the initiative and cover them with something, but I haven't yet. And it has been a year, so I probably wont. And the screen on mine is super hard to read. I usually need a flashlight.

I have the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto. The current Resmed bi-level is the S8 VPAP Auto 25. They haven't come out w/an S9 VPAP Auto yet. Our local Resmed Rep said they would have an S9 VPAP out by the end of the year but I've yet to hear a peep about one being introduced yet.

I also have the PR SystemOne BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex.

I like both bi-levels. I sleep well w/both bi-levels. There are features about both that I like and don't like - but they have nothing to do w/the therapy they provide - other than I find Respironics' method of pressure support easier to understand and utilize than Resmed's method of pressure support.

You really can't go wrong w/either bi-level.

Resmed absolutely reigns supreme in ease of access to, amount available and easy of reading data via the LCD screen. HOWEVER, the needed proprietary cable reader for the S8 proprietary data card is getting more difficult to find and obtain since the S8 is being phased out.

Data availability via the PR S1 LCD sucks - big time. They didn't have the common sense to backlight their LCD screen. Duh! But they do offer a patient version of their professional software, EncoreViewer. AND the S1's use a standard 2 gig data card as digital cameras do. You just need a standard USB card reader. THAT is the SMARTEST thing they have done w/the S1. And Resmed was smart enough to make use of that feature w/their S9s too. (But remember the S9s don't have a VPAP yet).

I'd be inclined to go w/the PR S1 BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex simply because they are the more advanced model for the time being.

Yes, I think we have the same machine. The lights do dim just a bit...they start off about as bright as 747 landing lights, and then they dim down a bit to be no brighter than lighthouse beacons. Lotta good that does.

I was in Washington DC over the 4th of July. My first night out there, I saw a shadow of a flashing blue light just after I went to bed. I thought that there was a police car outside of my window, so I got up to look. Then I noticed it was the humidifier light flashing. I apparently didn't push the water tray all the way in, so it started blinking. At least that one was bright enough to get my attention.

I will have to take notice in the morning before I turn it off if they look dimmer. I can't stand the blue lights. They drive me nuts.

The Respironics "Legacy" series (fondly referred to as the "tank") was manufactured prior to 2006 and was a tremendous PAP. The Respironics M series were introduced in 2006 and were NOT the brightest idea Respironics ever had (these are the models w/the blue lights that can't be turned off). The (Respironics) PR SystemOne series was introduced in 2009 and are the latest and greatest from PR (Respironics). Philips purchased Respironics and thus the references to both PR (Philips Respironics) and to "just" Respironics. Old habits die hard but you have to admit PR requires less keyboarding.

The Resmed S8s were introduced in 2006. The Resmed S8 IIs were introduced in 2008 and now the Resmed S9s have been introduced in 2010. But so far only CPAPs and an APAP, none of the more sophisticated modesl such as an S9 VPAP Auto.
