Help me to design a new machinery for u!
Hi,
I'm Italian Industrial Designer, so almost, I'm finishing my degree and now I'm making a internship in a Indian Studio!
For my last project I chosen to design a CPAP/biPAP machinery!
So...What could be better than to ask you Users which are the problems lead with these machineries?
Even the smallest thing it could be of help!
Thankx for your collaboration! And I hope one day my product will be on the market for you!

Put a flip up screen on the thing that shows how you did the night before. If the info can be downloaded and put on your computer for viewing it can be sent to a small (I-pad) size screen on the machine.

I think one machine with different modules would be nice. You could have a basic cpap machine and add auto data and any options with just a module without having to buy a new machine for an upgrade. I also hope you will try your hand at designing new masks. Do you use cpap?

1. Bluetooth connection from APAP to computer
2. UV filter in humidifier compartment
3. built in power adapter/voltage regulator
4. automatic altitude compensation
5. Very intuitive GUI (graphical user interface)
6. Stylish unit design that is built well (like the ResMed S9, but less "plasticy")
7. Built in LCD that will display full range of data
That's all I can think of for now...

And since I am dreaming, put a pulse oximeter plug-in on the thing so you can have that show up on the screen.

And a humidifier that can be opened and cleaned and NOT designed to self destruct with in a year.

Just make sure all the "techy" stuff is not too much for people who are not so technically inclined. You want more people able to use it easily - more people than just the tech types and the very computer literate.

An instantly viewable water guage......something to tell me how much water is available in the darn tank . So I don't have to stand on my head to view the tank. Or pick the whole mess up to look in the resevoir. Then ultimately have to guess if I Have enough to make it through the night . At the very least, a light or sound to tell me I have run out of water in the middle of the night.

YES!! A build in OXIMETER (Integrated)as part of the system ( not optional like the S9)

HaHa. Probably not much.
Good ideas are cheap; Just sitting in an easy chair for an hour I can have a two or three.
Implementation is the hard part. If you know how to do that, omit the OP and get rich.
Just kidding.
Seriously, I'm glad a bright, young, just-out-of school industrial designer wants to try his/her hand at CPAP.
And starts by asking the USERS.
And the fact ZQuest is Italian practically guarantees it will look COOL.
My contribution this AM: Upgradable firmware. Put an SD upgrade card in the port and the machine becomes completely current.

Hi--Please make the machine compact and QUIET!!! We need quiet machines----LOL! Esp. when our spouse is not a CPAP user and we like quiet. User friendly but does tell us our stats in the morning and not have the stats disappear at noon every day!! LOL!
That is all I can think of --oh maybe offer different colors?

Make the power supply so that you have multiple choices for power in case of travel, camping, or an outage--WITHOUT having to purchase a lot of expensive, proprietary equipment!
And that oximeter interface--build it in and make it universal, so we can use a cheapie if we like.

Lots of good ideas already listed.chunkyfrog wrote:Make the power supply so that you have multiple choices for power in case of travel, camping, or an outage--WITHOUT having to purchase a lot of expensive, proprietary equipment!

Let me add at the Top of the List "User Software" Included with the machine and the info should be viewable on the machine w/o software.
While the SD card is a nice addition, I think a USB thumb drive would be more universal and a USB connection to a computer.
A gauge for the water chamber - I really like that.
And don't forget the Oximeter connection to sync with any events recorded.
QUIET is a must. These things are for better sleep, right?
And only because I am sleeping with this machine every nite, an alarm clock would be great too.
EDIT: ps. can you have it take pictures like my phone too?

Size-adjustable nasal pillows so they can be completely individualized and will NOT KEEP COMING OUT! Also, a built-in eye mask with the option to keep eyes moist while the machine is in use.
