S8 VPAP Auto 25 vs S9 Autoset

Post by BigEd » Wed Oct 20, 2010 8:02 pm

Could someone tell me if there is a major difference between these two machines aside from the S8's BiPAP feature? Is this the reason for the huge price difference? (S8 VPAP Auto 25 $1856 and the S9 Autoset $853.) Is the BiPAP feature that expensive? Thanks.

BPAP is the reason for the price difference, but ResMed's price controls are the reason for the high prices of both machines.

I now use an S8 bilevel, but I covet the S8 II AutoSet. I like that the AutoSet suspends EPR during events. I think that is a really cool thing to do, myself. (The S9 does that too, I just have personal petty issues with the S9, which affects my preference.)

Bilevel is a bit more comfortable than EPR, so it is useful for people who need pressure over 15 cm in treating OSA. And bilevel can help treat conditions that exist alongside OSA. But if there are no related conditions, and the needed pressure is below 15 cm, the only basic difference between a bilevel and EPR is that EPR can only go up to 3 cm whereas bilevel is from 4 cm on up in the distance between breathe-in pressure and breathe-out pressure.
