Feel like I'm drowning and very short of breath.

Post by Dan B » Sat Oct 16, 2010 7:54 pm

I need some help.

I have a Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex
I started out using a Comforgel Blue Nasal Mask and that wasn't working for me. I moved to an Opus 360 nasal pillow and Now I feel like I'm drowning. I am very short of breath when I wear it and I can't stop yawning etc...

Any suggestions? I could monkey with my machine, but I have no idea what settings I should tweak.

Thanks!

Also... Anyone know how to "enable" the System One resistance settings on the REMstar Auto A-Flex. Seems my DME disabled it.

Thanks again!

Dan, what single pressure was prescribed from your sleep study?

What range of pressure (minimum/maximum) is your autopap machine set for?

Do you have A-Flex turned on? If so, what is your A-Flex set at (1, 2, or 3?)

Do you use ramp? If so, what pressure does your ramp start at?

Have you been able to look at any overnight data on your machine? Leak data is especially important.

Also if you switch between a nasal pillow and nasal mask, you would need to ensure you change your machine settings to the type you are using (assuming that option is also available on your machine) so it will adjust the pressure accordingly.

Sandra... the mask switching is a Resmed thing, not a Respironics thing.

The Philips Respironics System One also has a mask setting option in the setup menu. Some feel it is only to be used when using a Respironics mask but the Resmed mask setting is designed for Resmed masks so I think the PR System One setting can be used with other makes of masks too, as can the Resmed mask setting.

I have the PR System One and it is called "System One resistance ". When I use a Resmed mask or other brand I choose a setting for a similar Respironics mask i.e. - nasal pillows type by size and nasal and full face masks by size.

I have a list with some of the Respironics masks settings but not all. It is posted somewhere on the forum. Search "System One resistance".

The older Respironics machines (Legacy and M Series) did not have this feature.
