visit with sleep dr update

Post by sleepymama » Fri Oct 15, 2010 10:47 pm

ok so i had yet another visit with the sleep dr. gave me heck about mouth taping and said i could aspirate if i throw up during the night. my chin strap isn't doing much so i'm wondering what other ones would work better? the cpap store i bought my other purchases at only had these ones so i'm thinking about ordering online. didn't want to spend an arm and a leg though.
the dr actually made the recommendation of using a full face so i'm going to try the one i have here. i think if it doesn't work and i need to find another one i will go elsewhere cause they don't have the selection i hoped they would.
thanks

When's the last time you've thrown up in your sleep?

hi sleepymama -- i saw my doc today too. He advocates mouth taping, but I had not been able to do it. I used chin strap successfully last night though. I use the one that is the BIG WIDE WHITE thingee that velcros on top of head, and there is a velcro thing that goes in front of chin under lip and goes over to each side and attaches on the BIG WIDE WHITE thingee....haha -- sorry for bad description, but i couldn't find it on cpap.com to give youa link.

Good luck. does your doc talk to you about sleep hygiene? we talked about a sleep/wake schedule and putting some order in my life and no food 3 hours....well....read my post...haha

Good luck to you -- it's a hard road, but because of this great website at least it's not a hard LONELY road -- at least we all have each other -- people who truly understand!

oh, i forgot, I did have the flu two nights after i started cpap, and I knew well in time before I did the throw up thing. But aspirating into the lungs is a VERY serious thing to do and potentially fatal. The stuff from out stomachs was never meant to be in our lungs. I'm not able to tape just because of the claustrophobic feelings it gives me, but I have that chin strap on VERY tight, so hopefully that will help. I like the nasal mask better than the FFM, so I'm willing to crank up that chinstrap to make it work. Time will tell.

And the alternative to taping is, probably, a full face mask....hmmmm... what to do when you need to throw up then???????
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Will anyone who has ever thrown up in their sleep please check in now. It is imperative that we keep track of you for future reference and the appropriate statistical records. If you inadvertently died as a result of this, so sorry, we'll catch up with you later on. Please fill in the forms and get back to us... if you can tear yourself away from your fears.
