vpap - s by resmed

Post by wendybell » Thu Sep 30, 2010 6:21 pm

Hi everyone. I am getting a new bipap machine. The company I go through (whom I am not convinced has the greatest customer service) uniformly gives everyone the Resmed vpap-s machine. I am having a hard time finding a review for this machine, and wonder if it is okay. My pressure is 16/10. I use a nasal mask. Thanks!

Am I right in seeing that there are models numbered either 8 or 9? What is the difference?

8's are last year's models; 9's are newest.
Most features are the same--with some exceptions; appearance is the most obvious.
You can read the stuff on their website, bearing in mind they want to SELL these things.
Others will be along with actual experience with vpap, and the machine you are considering.

I beleive REMStar BiPAP AutoSV is the machine I have now. Again, it was the machine that was given to me originally and I had no idea other machines would be available or anything. I am surprised by my lack of knowledge on something so important. The machine I have now I have used for 4 years and it is making odd sounds, which is why I am getting a new one. Do the machines compare - the resmed vpap s versus my current remstar one?

Hi,

Were you prescribed an ASV machine? If so, an S isn't going to work for you. SV machines are far more sophisticated, and they treat things that a standard APAP, BiPAP, or CPAP cannot. ASV machines are in the $5500 range, while a VPAP S is about a $1500 machine. Two totally different creatures.

I guess maybe it is just the remstar auto? That is what it says on the machine. Sorry to be confusing. I guess I am pretty new at this, even though I have been using this machine for a few years. Really I just plugged it in and started using it, with little to no knowledge of anything.
At any rate, my equipment provider just uniformly gives out the resmed vpap-s to everyone and I am trying to make better/educated choices this time.

Unless it is has the "SV" letters marked on the machine it is not actually an SV. More likely it is an older machine commonly called a tank. So just a BiPap Auto tank.

I think what s/he is looking for are VPAPs made by Resmed.

New BiPAP user as of today!!! The sleep studies were a nightmare... lol... but, VERY hopeful and can't wait to get to sleep!

I have the Resmed VPAP Auto 25. The Tech. that came out today (1 hr 45 min drive) had NO experience with the machine. (I think it was a bit expensive for their normal routine)
He had never even looked at the manual before he came out. So he spent a whole 3 mins setting up my machine and overlooked most of the user preferences. I was hoping to find a Tech. manual so I could change some of the user prefs myself. Could anyone help in this area?

MUCH appreciated!
