Thank you all for sharing your experiences as it is relieving to see some of the long time vets on here as well all of us newbies. It really gives us hope.

I as well believe genetically I got it from my father he has it but never has treated it. He was suppose to have a sleep study done but never went. He also had a heart attack when he was 47 and says it was from wiping out surfing that day bad. They say it kncked plaque loose..... but even his doc said you would have ruptored his aorta before plaque should come loose..

So since my new learnings and experience I have shared with him his heart attack could have very well been from OSA... Both my mom & Step mom say he stops breathing at night obviously they noticed it at different times of his life.

Anyways thank you all for speaking out! It is very promising to here the stories and the amount of time people have been using CPAP.

The women in my family are all pretty healthy until they die of enlarged hearts and congestive heart failure. Of course, we all snore. When my mother had her final heart attack the doctor said he rarely sees such clean arteries even in young people. My doctor now says that sleep apnea could have been a factor. Maybe I've found a way to break the pattern. So grateful that my doctor caught this.

Hi there--been on CPAP for 3 years now. Diagonosed August of 2007. My husband told me a year or so before that about the fact that he hears me stop breathing during the night--but I was in denial---should have listened to him. I feel soooooo much better now on the machine. I am fifty-something--:)

I have been on cpap since July 2007, making it 3 years and some change. My father's brother died about 2 years ago and the doctor commented that he had untreated sleep apnea. My family has a history of snoring and enlarged hearts. So I hope to avoid those questions. My at the time wife lived with me not breathing during the night for some 10 years. I am truly thankful she pushed me to have the sleep test. At 88 events and a 48% blood oxygen level on my sleep test, I think that I will have a longer life because I went on the hose.

0.058 years today. Ok, 3 weeks. Blissful sleep any position. Gone from 73.6 AHI to less than 0.5. Sleep tech said some people are just made for CPAP. Guess I'm lucky.

I keep meeting people who say they were prescribed CPAP 10 years ago and stopped using it for one reason or another. Hope I don't fall off the wagon. The benefits are very much worth whatever discomfort/inconvenience I have encountered.
