LENGTH OF APNEA

Post by deerslayer » Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:24 pm

curious to know what the average length ( duration) of apneas of us cpapers here is ? ....i use James's analyzer program to find mine.... although my AHI has gone down to 05-2.0 w/ A duration of around 10-12 sec. apneas , i had one reading last week of 1 apnea of 30 second in length. first time ever for this. guess i shouldn't be too concerned , but it got my attention. thanks, tim.

During my study, mine averaged 90 seconds or so, and went up to 127 seconds at the longest. It wasn't pretty.

Got my new machine, and doing GREAT!

My S-9 Auto/3.11 chart shows the shortest at 10, which is minimum to be counted. The longest one in last 2 weeks has been at 22 seconds. The auto stops them pretty quick, I feel. jlk

I have severe complex sleep apnea. The longest my apnea was about 1 minute and 32 seconds.. I did this many many times during my sleep study. On average they are almost 60 seconds. That is along time to stop breathing. I cannot even hold my breath for 30 seconds and that is really trying to hold it. After my sleep results came back and my doctor told me about the 1 minute and 32 second apnea I tried timing myself and could not even get to 22 seconds. So I cannot imagine what no oxygen can do at that length. You found the right place to ask questions. Good luck!

Since I started sleeping on my back (messed up shoulders), I have apneas (rare before) that last from 10-24 seconds.

I had 7 events last night, which is very good for me, all of them centrals and the longest one lasted 16 seconds. I think the longest recorded event since I started using my cpap was 47 seconds. Been on a pap now for three and a half months and I finally found a chin strap that works for me.

Skimming the post, I briefly misread part of it as "the longest one lasted 2 weeks." No one could top that.

I was the one who has the 1 minute and 30 second apneas. I will look at my reports to see how long my other apneas were and let you know. No matter how long you stop breathing it is not good, that is my opinion. I am glad you posted and asked that question Tim. I hope you get the answers you are looking for. As soon as I look at my reports I will post it here so you can compare it if want.

But what are you going to do to control it, The only thing I can do is to make sure my XPAP treatment is as correct as I can get it. The rest is out of my hands. Jim

I averaged 36 second apneas before I got my Auto SV. Now I rarely have apneas. But I've had a couple of times where it looks like I've stopped breathing on my own for 15 to 30 minutes. The backup kicks in and I'm completely unaware of it until I check my stats.

I hear ya Jim ,good point for sure. only thing i know is keep a watch on stats- which now i do every two - three weeks . if apneas get increasingly longer will have to seek help. ...so envy the ones on here that only report hypopneas w/ no apneas. ....count your blessings y'all & don't take one day for granted *
