What about an AHI = 0.0 but leak = 20 ?

Post by Physician » Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:23 am

My brother uses an S9 non-autoset and Swift FX. His AHI is always < 0.1, but his leak is 8 to 20. He feels sleepy in the afternoon, and yawns at night, BUT he also unwisely falls asleep in a chair during the day. Fixed pressure = 12.

is it acceptable to have that leak rate simply because his AHI is 0.0 to 0.1 ?

The leak rate is largely irrelevant if the AHI is excellent. You cannot get a better AHI than 0.0. However, lowering the leak rate might allow a slightly lower PAP pressure.

No......not if you're losing all your therapy air out your mouth. At some point, the loss of therapy air or pressure affects the ability of the machine to calculate the events. At that point, the data is useless.

8 to 20 maximum leak? If so, that wouldn't really mean anything.

I have noticed in getting my leak rate down my pressure has actually gone up due to the machine recording more apneas?
