Vertigo with No Alcohol

Post by smith » Fri Sep 24, 2010 6:48 am

Wowo I woke up this morning and it was all I could do to keep myself from falling over. Has anyone ever felt that way? It was like my head was 200 pounds. I felt like I was going to vomit but never did. It eventually got better.

The only thing I can think of was I increased my setting from 10.6 to 11? When I woke up it was 11.2 and my AHI for the night was 0.5.

I also wore ear plugs maybe they did something with equal librium & pressure?

Any other spinners out there?

I'm a ife-long spinner, so-to-speak, having had light-headed episodes and vertigo off and on most of my life. In my case I'm pretty sure it's not been caused by my apnea since the vertigo stuff long predates my one-and-only apnea symptom of severe snoring.

The worst case of vertigo I ever had (about 8 years ago) was much like what you describe, except that it lasted several days. My husband drove me to the doctor because the world was spinning so severely---I was literally hugging the bed and telling him "Stop the world, I want to get off". The doctor and the physician's assistant decided that it was most likely an inner ear infection (and probably viral). They put me on OTC dramamine (the stuff for motion sickness) and told me that if it didn't get better in a couple of weeks to come back in and they'd start looking at other potential causes.

So yes, something is messing with the equilibrium in your inner ear. Could be pressure I suppose, but my impression is that it's the middle ear that usually hurts when there are pressure problems. When your ears pop, that's the Eustation tubes equalizing the pressure on both sides of the eardrum. When the pressure is not equal, it's your middle ear that feels funny.

Definitely I'd say the ear plugs unless you wear them all the time and never had that happen.

Welcome to my world! I had a viral infection in my brain (prior to cpap) and have been dizzy off and on ever since. But, and theres a big but....usually the dizziness is caused by the crystals in your inner ear moving. Your doctor can clear it up in a jiffy using the Epply Manouver. If it hasn't cleared up yet, go get it done, you will be dizzy free. It doesn't work for me, neither do the medications, the virus did something to my inner ear and caused me to loose my hearing in my right ear. So, now I'm off balance and stuck with the "dizzies".
Good luck
Nan

I had a very bad case of Vertigo. I went to an ENT who specializes in Vertigo. He did an Eply's maneuver on me and then I had to sleep sitting up for 2 nights. After that I had positional exercises to do at home for months. Good news: It really worked! the Epply's maneuver got me 70% of the way and the other 30% I worked on myself. I now only get dizzy when I go from sitting straight up to lying straight down on my back. So, for me it was positional. It had everything to do with the crystals leaving the labrynth of the inner ear. These positional exercises work on putting the crystals back where they belong. Meclazine and dramamine just make you tired - they don't cure the problem. Epply's maneuver does!

Three years ago within about 2 weeks of my 60th birthday, I had to go to the hospital via ambulance because of vertigo like symptons.
They put me on oxygen upon arrival here at our home and a little while later I was feeling 100%. They wouldn't let me go for 48 hours to be sure that it was not my heart. I passed all of the tests with flying colors.
Looking back I have a very strong suspicion that a sheet came up over my nose mask and in fact I was breathing carbon dioxide. If this is the case I will never know but this is my best guess.

Thank you for all your reply's I appreciate the communication

I called my Doc today and he told me to go buy some motion sickness pills and if it did not get better after a few hours to call him back.

It was crazy I got out of bed this morning and just about fell over it was all I could do trying to get to the bathroom to shower. Once in the shower it seemed to get alot better. I was still dizzy but functional..... It was like I was out at sea all day fishing on a boat for most of the day. The pills seem to help once I finally left work and went and got some.

It is friday folks I wish all of you a very restful weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
