Cat as mask alert

My neighbor's cat woke her up the other night by pulling her hair and patting her face. While still half asleep she tried to get the cat to stop, but the cat continued to try to wake her up, which she finally did. She then realized that somehow she had taken her CPAP mask off while she was asleep. She put it back on and went back to sleep. The cat didn't bother her anymore. Smart cat! I wonder if my cats would do the same thing?

I absolutely believe you... though wonder if your cat didn't just want breakfast but gave up and decided to wait it out ! I get such a variety of wake-up calls sometimes (2 cats) that I'm very reluctant to imagine their origins until something seems to definitely point one way or the other. But keep an eye out in future and see if a real pattern develops (though I hope it's not at the expense of your sleep).

my cat likes the air off the mask and keep putting her face in mine rubs me and all kinds of crap then she sleeps right beside my pillow

My cat would cuddle up with me as long as I was awake.
He would skedaddle as soon as I fell asleep.
The closest he would come was lying between my hubby's feet.
This cat hates loud noises--(like snoring?)
Maybe the neighbor's CPAP was working so well the cat thought there was something WRONG when her apnea restarted.

my almost 20 lb cat has a tendency to first start kneading my head and neck. It's kind of relaxing----until he decides that he wants to start shoving his weight around and tries to sit on my head.

We had a lion I would sometimes sit with. This lion really liked me. sometimes I would doze off while sitting with him, and start to have apneas (Yes, I have them when I am sitting). He would then whimper to wake me up!

Do you think there'll ever be a time when people give animals credit for being as hugely smart and sensitive as they are? When whether or not they can use computers or write symphonies is seen as irrelevant and the fact they have incredible senses that we don't will be appreciated? Just because they're cute doesn't mean they're stupid or incapable!

I think it is very interesting how cats and dogs communicate with humans. I had a dog for a while, and without speaking a single English word, without even using hands, and with minimial facial expression, she could put the thought that was in her head into my head. I found that most amazing. She was far better at charades than I ever was.
