Let's hear from BEARD full face mask wearers...

Post by KenH » Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:26 am

I posted this on the "perfect mask post" but thought it would generate more notice with a new post.

I have a full BEARD and I am struggling with mask selection. I have tried nasal masks but I have to breath through my mouth occasionally. I am currently using the Mirage Quattro Full Face and I was hoping there might be something else out there. My pressure is set at 15 and I have Central Sleep Apnea. Any BEARD sufferers out there?

Yes, I have the same mask and at times struggle with it. I found some of the best things to do is keep the mask clean, and I shave close to the beard. I am going to ask for nasal mask next to see how that works. I am also a mouth breather but have found if I tape my mouth shut, I can use nasal masks as well. I am anxious to hear from others as well

Have you tried the T-shirt face gasket? T-shirt material is more tolerant of "uneven surfaces" than very smooth silicone is.

Full beard wearer and total failure at wearing a ff mask. Nasal pillows and sealing the mouth some way is the only way to go IMHO.

Try Easy Life from Responics. I'm having pretty good luck for the past 6 months. I must have tried 20-25 masks before this. I am getting my 6 month replacement this week.

This mask has a mask within the mask and it is not supposed to be fastened too tight. I do have to wear a jaw strap as I am a mouth breather. While I hate the entire mask wearing, this seems to be the best choice for me.

I'm afraid I have had not much luck with full face masks and a beard--I keep my beard pretty trim, but just can't get a good seal. The best one I've tried is the ComfortGel FFM, but I need to wear it pretty tight, so I only do so when I'm congested and can't use my Activa LT.

I have a beard which I keep fairly short, and I use the Mirage Quattro FF mask. I'm on BiPap with a fairly high inhale pressure of 19 so I have to keep the mask on very tight to prevent leaks.

TO make matters worse I sleep on my right side, So I now have the outline of the mask in red, aggravated skin, most pronounced on the right side of my face.

To further complicate my tale of woe I have what one doctor called SIS (Shitty Irish Skin) and the mask has made a mess of my forehead too.

Does anyone have experience with Respironics Total Face CPAP Mask & Headgear???
