Are Hoses recyclable?
Are Hoses recyclable?
Does anyone know if the plastic hoses we use between the xpaps and the masks are recyclable?

In my opinion, if they're not leaking, they're still usable......and if so, it would be a waste to dispose of them in any manner.bailachel wrote:Does anyone know if the plastic hoses we use between the xpaps and the masks are recyclable?
However, if they do spring a leak and are not repairable, then there have been a number of "artistic" suggestions made over the years as to what to do with them. (somewhere in the forum threads)
Personally, I'm still using my first one (5 1/2 yrs.), so I don't have any personal experience with recycling them.

So, Wulfman, I assume this indestructible hose is no longer made?
Bummer!

I don't know......it's the one that came with my original Respironics Pro 2 (May 2005). It (and a few others like it that I have) came packaged in Respironics labeled bags. The part number on the bags is "622038" if you want to look for some. They're a dark grey color, so they aren't the newer "Performance" hoses that they've been selling recently.chunkyfrog wrote:So, Wulfman, I assume this indestructible hose is no longer made?

I also have some additional spares in various lengths......4 - 6', 2 - 8' and 1 - 10'......for when they may be needed, but so far, the original is still doing just fine.
Still using the very first mask and seals that I started with, too. I did have to replace the headgear (April of 2009) after almost four years, but the rest is all original. And, I do have several spare masks and more spare seals for "whenever".
I do take good care of my equipment......in spite of the fact that I don't "clean" everything as per the manufacturers' recommendations. Sometimes, "less is more".
Oh, and I also have the equipment and software to work on my machines......if or when they need maintenance.
This month I'm using a "brand new", five-year-old REMstar Pro 2 (2005 vintage) that I purchased off the auction site in July. It had ZERO blower time on it as it had a broken small hose connector on the inside, which probably happened when it was being put together at the factory (when I downloaded the smart card, it showed one minute of usage on July 7th of 2005). I fixed the problem with a $3.00 hose connector kit and replaced the internal time clock battery. It's now a great-running machine after a little TLC.

Re: Are Hoses recyclable?
If you mean can they go out with other plastic stuff for regular recycling, why not? Plastic's plastic.
Re: Are Hoses recyclable?
yes, that is what I mean. Since they don't come with the recycle triangle and one of the recycle #s, I wasn't sure.

Re: Are Hoses recyclable?
I think it all depends on where you live and what is acceptable for plastic recycling. The problem is that since it is not a consumer item it does not have a little recycling symbol and number to indicate what it is.

Except that it's not 100% plastic.Julie wrote:If you mean can they go out with other plastic stuff for regular recycling, why not? Plastic's plastic.

Do you have a huge tangle of cords and stuff behind your tv and entertainment equipment? A used hose makes a great carrier for all those cords.....sure cleans the mess and tangle up nicely. Just split it up the middle and lay all your cords along it if you can't thread them through.

Re: Are Hoses recyclable?
If the recycling people don't want it, they'll get rid of it - we can't be expected to be scientists on top of everything else, don't worry about it. Be happy !
