USE PROTECTION, for safe surfing and downloading.
When I build a computer, it's never hooked up to the net until all protection is in place to keep it safe. I became a believer in this after building a new computer and hooking it to the net, to download some software, it got infected in 10 minutes, took me all day to repair the damage.
Now I install Advast Free, from a known good file, and then hook to the net and get the latest DEF's for it. In Win 7, I keep the security up to date. Running 54 programs I can't afford to be caught sleeping. But fearing trouble is pointless, I run my computers to use, I don't limit what I see or open, I do use common sense, if you haven't asked for something or IT's FREE!, beware on the side of Caution.
Other O.S. and Mac's are safer, but I use my computer, so they are not a option. Maybe if I only did E-Mail and Chatting, they would be enough. I also Run two & one half (LAP), like computers so if one goes down I am still able to recover and keep running, without missing a beat. Jim

I too am always very careful. I never open attachments or go to questionable web sites. I have a fire wall antivirus and windows defender. I have scanned with all the tools I can get hold of and so far found no problems. It is a mystery to me.Goofproof wrote:USE PROTECTION, for safe surfing and downloading.

Go to cnet downloads here: http://download.cnet.com/windows/
Go down the right side of the page to "MOST POPULAR DOWNLOADS" I use AVG for antivirus and Malwarebytes for anti-malware. Both are free. If you down load Malwarebytes make sure you update it every time you scan with it. I have had good luck with both.

AVG let one of my computer get sick, So I went with Avast Free, two years virus free running 24/7, I open almost anything and go anywhere I want to, Won't use Norton, can't afford the feed a process hog. Jimkempo wrote:Go to cnet downloads here: http://download.cnet.com/windows/
