I slept well with only 4cm pressure
I slept well with only 4cm pressure
AHI of 1.2 and leak rate very low. When I used higher pressures, my numbers were worse.
Is this conceivable? Could there be an error in the numbers reported by the S9 such a low pressure?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
During my sleep study, I didn't have any REM sleep. I was sleeping decently with 5 and 6 cm but started having more apneas at 7 nm. My titrated pressure was 7-11 cm, but to me that seems just to be a guess.Janknitz wrote:What's your titrated pressure????
I tried my titrated pressure earlier but was having bad results (AHI around 22, but this was only for about an hour). I think it was creating central apneas: I would quickly get sleepy, but then I was having trouble remembering to breathe and couldn't quite fall asleep.
Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
Please see my earlier response to Janknitz. I couldn't sleep at my titrated pressure, so yes, I am essentially doing my own sleep study. I will call my doctor on Monday, but I'm also interested in seeing if anyone else had had a similar experience.elena88 wrote:my numbers are worse the higher pressure I use..

Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
Wow. 4 is normal air pressure, according to my therapist. But I was holding an AHI of 9.5 while my CPAP was set at nine, and the doctor just ordered it lowered to 6... maybe he knows something you and I don't.

I sleep well with pressure at 5. I set it to 4 - 9 and 5.2 is my 90% number so yes, it is possible to sleep well with a low number.

Thanks, slapmeawake. That's good to hear. I don't imagine that I'll stay at 4 forever, but it's good to know that there are people doing well with lower pressures.slapmeawake wrote:I sleep well with pressure at 5. My husband is such a big spoiled baby I had to lower his pressure to keep him using his machine. After he gets used to it I am going to raise his pressure gradually till I get it up where it belongs. After reading this I lowered his to 4.5. Maybe he will keep his mask on longer tonight.

Stormynights, please bear in mind that I'm a newbie feeling my way in the dark. So I would not want to take responsibility for influencing people one way or the other.Stormynights wrote:My husband is such a big spoiled baby I had to lower his pressure to keep him using his machine. Having said that, I think we're thinking along the same lines. If the choice is between low pressure and not using the machine, low pressure is better, and it's always possible to increase the pressure after acclimatization occurs.
What confuses me about my own situation is the fact that my AHI was so low. I'm not convinced at this point that the reported numbers at such a low pressure are reliable. On the other hand, I feel a bit better than I did before, so the situation seems a bit murky. I'll get a card reader soon and will be able to analyze the data in more depth.

Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
I'm not even checking his data at this time. I know how he is and if I left the pressure as it should be he would never use his machine at all. I don't need anything else catching dust. I do need him and I am going to do all I can to keep him as long as I can.syzygy wrote:Stormynights, please bear in mind that I'm a newbie feeling my way in the dark. Syzygy,
What was your AHI on the initial polysomnography?

It was 15.9.
Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
syzygy, while we don't hear it often, there are some who say they are comfortable at 4. In your diagnostic study did your oxygen drop very low? If so, it wouldn't hurt to spend a couple nights with an oxygen monitor added. Also, check your data to assure those remaining events aren't super long - just to cover all bases. Someone might already know without checking, but hopefully 4 is your mask's minimum recommended pressure. I've only read on here of those who had a very fine tuned "sweet spot", so I can't speak to that.
Stormynights, I sure hope this approach works for your hubby. Aren't you worried his data will be real bad and make him even more uncomfortable with the therapy? I must just be nosey by nature, because I don't think I could refrain from looking. Do you sneak the pressure up without him knowing, or does he know what his pressure is? He's lucky he has you pushing for him to continue. Best wishes.

Re: I slept well with only 4cm pressure
Thanks for the suggestions, kteague. In my original sleep study, my average O2 level was 95% and my minimum value was 89%, although I only spent .1% of the time below 90%. During my titration, was minimum value was 86% and the average was 96%. The best O2 occurred at 6cm pressure; the min there was 95%.kteague wrote:syzygy, while we don't hear it often, there are some who say they are comfortable at 4. When you refer to an oxygen monitor, are you talking about something like a pulse oximeter, the thing you put on your finger?
