Is my s9 humidifier working
Re: Is my s9 humidifier working
The answer is yes if you preheat and the warming plate is warm. The s9 humiderfer only heats when it need to add humidity to the air. I have found that mine uses approzimately 2 oz a night (climate hose in use). I had problem with the air being cold so now I use the climate hose and love it. I can set it at 82 degrees and enjoy the air temp being the same all night.

Do you have the climate line hose? If so, then the machine is automatically adjusting the heat on the humidifier to meet the target relative humidity level of 80% (this is set by Resmed and is not adjustable) for the temperature you set. So... if there is already 80% relative humidity in the air, it will not heat the water and therefore use very little.

Re: Is my s9 humidifier working
I have had my S9 and H5i for two weeks now. After the first night I saw that the water level had dropped very little with the humidity control set to 3.0. I touched the heating plate a couple minutes after shutting off the unit and the plate was cool. I called the technician that showed me how to use the unit and asked her about the minimal level drop. She had me run the S9 for about 5 minutes and then touch the heating plate. I told her it was cool. She told me it sounded like the H5i was defective and would have another one sent out (which I am still waiting for). Since the first night I have tried different humidity levels: at level 4.0 I touched the plate immediately after waking up and shutting off the unit and the plate was ice cold with no drop in water level. At 6.0 there was one night when the water level had dropped from the maximum to nearly empty (less than 1/16" of water) after 4.5 hours of use and the plate was hot. Another night the water level dropped less than 1/8" and the plate was very, very slightly warm. My room temperature has varied very little, being in the mid to high 70's, and with minor changes in ambient humidity so I don't believe it is an issue with changing environment conditions causing the H5i to operate differently. It may be possible you also have a defective humidifier. I'd also like to point out that during the 2nd week of use I started having a rainout (I just learned that term today) issue which has resulted in having to cut short usage of the unit. The gurgling sounds of the water in the tube, which is amplified by the tube and mask wakes me up. Two nights ago I woke up choking when I actually sucked in condensate that had accumulated in my mask. I know I had not overfilled the H5i tank and when I checked the water level it had dropped from maximum to halfway to the next line down. I think the H5i is now heating the water so hot that even in a 75-80 degree F room it is causing a condensation issue. Hopefully the replacement H5i will resolve this problem; I ran the unit last night with the H5i shut off and ended up taking the mask off after only 2.1 hours of use because my mouth and throat were so dry it woke me up. I need the humidity but also need to be able to sleep without waking up due to loud gurgling noises or choking on condensate accumulation.
