Atrophy of throat muscles from CPAP?

Post by cmwhatley » Wed Nov 16, 2005 9:24 pm

I've been on CPAP for a year now and have had good results, but one thing I've noticed is that my throat feels weaker when I lay on my back. It is like I have to work harder than I did in the past to to keep my windpipe open.

In particular, I do psychoanalysis which involves talking for 45 minutes on my back. I find my throat muscles getting tired in the session.

Has anyone else noticed something like this?[/b]

I believe it is the opposite for me. Since I use the phone a lot at work I fine that being on CPAP improved the quality of my voice. My voice is holding up so much better at the end of the day when I started using CPAP. For most people it is little bit harder to breath when on your back. I think that since you are using CPAP you are noticing the difference better when on your back as compared to your side for example and it has nothing to do with atrophy.
