Oxygen until CPAP

Post by Geddy » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:16 am

Unexpected. I just got a call from a DME company. The doctor from my sleep study this past Wednesday night has ordered oxygen for me to wear at night until I get my CPAP machine. No additional details were available. All they could say was, "Your oxygen saturation must have been very low during your test."

I wish there were more details available. This didn't happen last time I tried this.

Ask for a copy of your sleep study report.... not just the summary, get the 5-8 report including doctor's dictates notes. You are entitled to this report so ask for it! This will give you a clearer picture of your O2 sat readings during your study.

If your throat collapses how will the O2 get through? And this came from the sleep doc?

Your Doc's a hasn't a clue about sleep apnea, O2's not the problem your airway closing off is. He needs to send you a APAP and a mask, not O2 unless you need it 24/7. Jim

OMG Geddy!

That is strange, I would think they would want to get your on cpap asap, and have the oxygren bled into it..

well gosh, let us know what happens, and as I said before..

sleep on your tummy!!!! or your side..

Ill have to come over and sew a bowling bowl into your night shirt, so do dont sleep on your back!

get your sleep study asap.. in the mean time, call back and have whoever has it

read the summary on the back page to you!

ask them what your desaturation was too, and your AHI... do you have a fax? have them fax it to you..
If they are close, go call and make arrangements for THEM TO HAVE IT ON THE OFFICE for you to pick up..
I think some of them need a bit of warning, as not that many people are informed enough to ask for it!

Call your sleep study doctor. He needs an education. Tell him that you need a cpap ASAP, even if it's a temporary rental till you get the one you really want. Hope you know which machine and mask you want and have him write the specific RX for that too.
