Another Sleep Study Tonight

Post by Geddy » Wed Aug 25, 2010 11:21 am

So, two years ago, I was diagnosed with OSA. I was given a CPAP machine and sent on my way. I had a horrible time with it, but tried over several months to use it. I ended up giving it back to the DME company because I just wasn't using it. Mistake.

A couple of years later, my blood pressure's up, my weight is up and I cannot lose it no matter how hard I try, body's going out of wack, I'm falling asleep during the day at my desk including driving home in the car. That scares the crap out of me. So, I contact my doctor and confess my sin of quitting. She absolves me but says I have to have another sleep test and start all over again.

It's a pain, but I'm going. I know I need it. I've got to try harder. I'm just miserable over the whole thing because I know how bad I did with it before. I'd go to bed with the mask on and wake up in the morning with it on the floor.

But, I've got to do something. I cannot believe how much this seems to be impacting me. Just can't believe it.

Geddy,
Equipment and masks have evolved in 2 years time. You can't look back. We all have 20/20 hindsight.
Good for you for recognizing that you have a problem and it needs to be fixed.
I'm pretty far away but I will be glad to virtually hold your hand and help you.
There are a lot of other folks on this forum who care and have been in your shoes. You have joined a family. Welcome to the forum.
Good luck on your sleep study tonight.
Make sure you get copies from the sleep lab, read, read, read, and ask lots of questions.

You CAN do this.

Keep us posted.
Shar

Hi Geddy,
You can do this! I have and you can too!! I first started on cpap in 2006, had such severe problems with allergies and everything else on earth my dr. finally said, you are not a canidate for c-pap! I had the surgery[UPPP} in 2007 and now I have apnea again after all that so i have no choice now but to try to use the c-pap!
I can and i will do it, because I have too!!!!!!
You can too,you and I have a fantastic group of friends here that are more than willing to help. It wasn't long ago that i found out I could read and post here,i had been struggling alone for so long.
Thank GOD for these people and go forward!
Best of luck.

Believe it. In that believing you will find what it takes to make your success this time non-negotiable. I quit a few months after a miserable start. Had I not found my way here, I just don't know what would have become of me. Go into this time fully expecting to resolve any issues that may arise, and expecting this treatment to impact you positively even more than the OSA has negatively. It's all good.

Oh - the mask on the floor - you'll find tips here to help if that comes up again.

Well, it ended up being a good postive experience. They ended up having to wake me in the middle of the night to put a mask on me because apparently, I wasn't doing so well sleeping to that point. They put the full mask on and true to form, just like a couple of years ago, after some period of time, I threw the mask off. They came in and let me try a micro-mask that only went over my nose. What a difference. Nobody had ever offered that up as an option a couple of years ago. Seems like they should try you in a couple of masks before they let you go home as a standard practice or something, or else I likely would not be in my situation right now.

So, hopefully this is the beginning of a positive experience. I'm excited about this different mask. Thanks to everyone for the support. Wish I had found this place a couple of years ago too.
