I realize "sleeping" is a loose term in this case.....I "thought" I was sleeping soundly that whole time, but it turns out I was subconciously waking every 5 minutes during those 12 hours. But the point is, from my perception, I was really "sleeping" for that long, every night!
I sleep 11-13 hours a night, every night.....even with setting an alarm and trying to get up (which inevitably doesn't work). I never wake up refreshed.
But this is the BEFORE CPAP. We'll see what the "after" ends up being.
Just wondering if this quantity (10, 11, or more hours seemingly asleep) was or still is a symptom of anyone else here. It seems some that have apnea have too many awakenings, but for me, I never wake up during the night (consciously, that is).....I just sleep solidly (so I thought) for a lonnnnnng time. I think the reason is that I am never getting quality sleep, so I try to make up for it by getting MORE? But wondering if that is common around here.
Thank you!
Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?

Re: Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?
Certainly I thought I was sleeping for 12 hrs too. Before cpap I wouldn't lay down for a nap for fear I wouldn't wake up for 8-10hrs. Now I can nap with no trouble. Get up when the alarm goes off, etc. Just remember this doesn't happen overnite.CAsleep wrote:I realize "sleeping" is a loose term in this case.....I "thought" I was sleeping soundly that whole time, but it turns out I was subconciously waking every 5 minutes during those 12 hours. I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?
those twelve hours werent very helpful were they?
No, total insomniac, four hours a night if I was lucky.. and never had daytime sleepiness, total, I mean total fluke that I ended up in
a sleep study.. as I dragged my husband to the doctor for his terrible daytime sleepiness and snoring and gasping and breathing cessations at night..
and he narked to the doctor I was this insane never sleeping insomniac.. Do a lot of people know that insomnia is a HUGE symptom of OSA???
raging insomniacs often have OSA.... their bodies are so terrified to go to sleep because they know they are going to suffocate! eek..
so if you know any life long insomaniacs, tell them to get tested..

Re: Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?
Ha! Those 12 hours definitely don't seem to be doing me much good.
What's strange, is that I also have this BIZARRE aversion to going to bed at night. I feel like maybe my body just intuitively knows that sleep is not "restful" for me anyways, so it doesn't see going to sleep, getting into bed at the end of the day as a rewarding behavior. But nonetheless, once I do get to sleep, I'll be gone for 12 hours, and struggle to get up.
But my schedule does get "delayed" because of just not wanting to go to bed......it is very messed up....

Re: Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?
Yep, I slept alot as well. I could average 10 to 12 hours a night without any problems.
Our usual bedtime as a young child was 9 p.m. and mom would wake us at 7:00 a.m. That is 10 hours of sleep as a child. Even today I require at least 9 hours of sleep to feel rested. Before cpap I could barely drag through the day, now it is much better.

Re: Was anyone sleeping 10-12+ hrs/night before PAP therapy?
That was exactly my story pre-CPAP. Slept 10 to 12 hours nightly, deeply (I thought). I stopped taking naps, because my intention would be 1 hour, but would always end up being three hours. My boyfriend told me if there was a sleep Olympics, I would win a gold medal.
I have had my machine three weeks. I sleep 4-5 hours nightly (or don't sleep) and feel so much worse than I had previously. They keep telling me to be patient, so I am trying to do that. Good luck to you!

Paula there is a learning curve in adjusting to cpap therapy. Give yourself a pat on the back for sticking with it.
