Just got new (?) s9 autoset question about run hours.

Post by yawnny » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:37 pm

My DME delivered a apparently new S9 and humidifier to me yesterday. Overall I had a reasonably good night with it but, a question has popped up after I reviewed the clinical info menu. Run hours is at 11.3 while Used hours is 8.5. 8.5 would have been about right for my usage last night, leaving me to wonder where the other almost 3 hours of run time came from. Does Resmed test them at at factory that long or did I fall for the old "give him a used machine, he'll never know the difference". Thanks for any insight.

Watch the hours for the next few nights. If there are continued anomalies, maybe you have a bad machine. Otherwise, I'd say an extra three hours probably means someone was testing it.

Mine had 30 minutes on it when I got. I figured it was test time from the factory.

I did call Resmed customer support who told me that the DME was probably putting it thru it's paces making sure that everything works as it should and that I shouldn't be concerned by 3 extra hours on the machine. I guess I can buy that seeing as they didn't even have any S9 autosets in stock and had to special order mine. So, maybe each of their resp therapists pawed it for a bit before passing it on to me. I guess I can live with that.

I should probably be grateful that they even ordered it for me, three other DMEs in my area flat out told me that they couldn't provide this APAP for me and I would have to settle for whatever they had in stock or that I would not qualify for an APAP at all even though my insurance pays 100% and I had a script in hand.

I just asked the guy "do you have one of these" and he went in the other room and got one.. This was in March..
I dont understand, who told you you wouldnt qualify for an apap? Certainly the DME's cant make that decision for you.
Doc has the last word.

What is the big deal about getting an apap, if the codes are the same and the insurance company pays the exact same amount..

this is such a mystery to me.. who wouldnt want a machine which can run both ways? yes, so the mark up eats into dme profit, but
there is still some profit there....

Yeah, I know. I really don't get it. The DME that got it for me admitted that the insurance company paid the same amount regardless of the machine and they paid so much that regardless of which machine it was, they still made a profit. I am 100% puzzled why the other DMEs stuck to their guns and said that they could not accommodate me. Well it definitely became their loss. I'm in West Michigan, maybe the DMEs here are so set in their ways that they think that they can continue to dictate what equipment they will provide but, obviously it can backfire. I hope more West Michigan patients educate themselves and don't settle for what the local DMEs offer without pushing back for their own best interests.
