Apnea scales - different ones?

Post by redcoat » Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:28 pm

Hi,

I've seen apnea scales that have values for mild, moderate and severe as 5-15, 15-30 and >30, and others that use values as 5-20, 20-40 and >40.

Does anyone know where the latter one comes from?

thanks.

AHI is a very incomplete measure of the severity of one's condition, so does the difference in those scales matter?

I believe the second set of values are what Medicare uses. My doc told me they keep pushing them up to avoid having to provide certain levels of care.
