Hans Rudolph Masks
Hans Rudolph Masks
[quote="Severeena"]The Hans Rudolph is light weight, seals excellent and the only hard piece is the hose swivle.
Very comfortable and does not lose the seal when sleeping on the side.
The whole mask is soft but you need a caliper for exact size.

David, Hans Rudolph only makes masks and nothing else. This is why they have such a wide range of sizes for the full face mask and the nasal mask.
You can go to the company's web site at.
http://www.rudolphkc.com
They will mail you information about their masks and head gear. They are coming out with a another head gear with straps and the quick release string.
I have a prototype of the new head gear.
You have to research this mask for yourself, but my leakage is either 0 L/S or like this morning at 0.08L/S
Good Luck on the HR.

David,
Based on Sharons experience with this mask I went ahead and purchased the Hans Rudolph. I had been using the Ultra Mirage FFM for 8 months and didn't care for the hard plastic and wanted something a bit more comfortable. This one is definitely more comfortable, but I've found that I have some leaks around the upper section so I've ordered the add on piece.
Sharon....How different is the new headgear? I find the one that came with the mask to be adequate but a little on the flimsy side.

The new head gear is going to be of straps like some of the other head gear on the market, but the head gear will come in sizes as well since aour heads are not all the same size and shape.
I had a bit of a problem with my new HR and I called the company and in one day I had my new hard plastic swivel piece and my new head gear.
I even told them about cpaptalk.com
There is a warrantee on the masks as well.
You may have a bit to big of a mask you may need the next size smaller.
Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

Overwhelming Response
Judging by the overwhelming response to this thread one can assume one of two things:
1. HR masks are a well kept secret indeed
2. They are not well loved
Whatever.

dkeat, for some reason they are a well kept secret.
I had the chance to talk to a gentleman in Mo. about this mask and he said the main reason this mask is not out among the public is, they do not make cpap or apap machines to push their product.
Their product is pushed by word of mouth.
I know this is a good indication of a non leaking mask and a very quiet machine. I was sound asleep and Tom came to my side of the bed and yelled at me to wake up nothing was working. I felt the 4 holes in the mask and air was coming out, and the machine was working.
I told Tom this is when you know you have the right combination.
Go figure. I feel the Hans Rudolph is far superior over the others since al these people do are masks.

I looked at their website and, lo and behold, they have some new digi-something nasal mask that is made based on a custom digital image of your face! Woo hoo! I've been saying there should be an option for custom fitted masks. Is this cool. Too bad I can't use a regular nasal mask too often.. but maybe this is an omen of things to come! Today nasal, tomorrow, full face!

I love my full face mask.
They keep working on their masks and one day they will have the full face digi set up.
I liked talking to the gentleman in customer service.

I bought a HR full face mask over a year ago. Thank goodness I didn't pay full price - bought a lightly used one on EBay. I hesitated to jump in on this thread because it's very likely that it didn't work for me because perhaps I just didn't select the right size.
The mask I got (size small) was huge on my face and leaked like crazy from every area. Total disaster. Possibly if I'd gotten the sizing calipers from HR to determine exactly what size I needed in Hans Rudolph stuff, I'd have had better success. I think they also come in extra small and/or petite. I definitely needed much, MUCH smaller than "small" in that particular FF mask.
I'm very glad yours works for you, Sev! You stuck with it until you got the size you needed. Good job!
ProfessorSleep, I had looked at the digital "custom" info at HR's website once. What came to my mind though was...what good would it do to have the face mapped while sitting up? We all know how much the tissues, muscles, etc. change position and thickness when we lie down. A mask that fits beautifully suddenly becomes leaky here or there. Even lying on one side or the other changes the facial geometry considerably.
I really don't think the digital thingy would accomplish much in the way of getting a better "fit", but maybe it would. I think design of a cushion that can adapt to changing positions (the way ResMed's Activa does) is a surer way of getting a good sealing fit.

Excellent point, Rested Gal, about the digi-mask. I was concerned, first, about the cost (must be $$$), changes in the face due to aging, weight, etc., and your point about position is an excellent one. I still hold out hope that something like this will come along - I guess the fact that HR is doing this at least points out that someone recognizes the need, as well as the potential, for doing a better job with the masks. Aren't we all glad we got in on this cpap stuff early? Years from now we'll have a "remember when" thread.... LOL!

Nearly new HR mask
While you are discussing these masks, I thought I would mention that I have a Hans Rudolph mask ( size small) for sale. I purchased it in August for $198. I tried it on once for about 5 minutes and found that it was too small for me. (I wear a large activa). Anyone interested send me a PM.

I keep saying to go to the aHans Rudolph web site, click on contact us and request information be sent to you. You also need to request the CALIPER.
You then take the number and either call or email the Hans Rudolph corporation and they will tell you the correct size.
If the one you have is a small and it is to big, then you either need the EX-Small or the Petite. I am using the Petite.
You can also purchase the sensa seal to adjust the size of the mask.

Don't blame the mask for the wrong size.

I am planning on buying a Hans Rudolph mask in the near future. I requested information from them and got it within a couple of days. They included a caliper in the packet. So now, when I'm ready to order mine, I know just what size to get. The sellers also have calipers you can buy.

Ramona, why buy a caliper, when the Hans Rudolph company will send you one for free in the information packet.
I am glad you received your information so quickly.
They are so eager to help anyone interested in the mask.
I asked them to put me on the trial list of new product prototype to try for them so I can give my opinion on them.
