Allergic
Allergic
I recently got a new cpap. I have a lot of allergies & asthma & my first one made my face peel & my nose sore inside. My eyes are very dark & I'm short of breath & needed to use my nebulizer. I then tried the one that fits in the nostrils & it was worse- made my nose even more sore. I just ordered a cloth mask called Sleepweaver, has anyone else tried it? Did you have good results?

Hi Kylee.... welcome to the forum. Please register and fill in your profile (go to User Control Panel in upper left after you register) with the information regarding your equipment...in text.... machine, mask(s), etc.
If you use the search engine for the forum and plug in Sleepweaver, you will find several threads that discuss it. It is a fairly new mask and some folks love it and some can't use it. The manufacturer offers a 30 day trial period at full money back so you could try it out and return it if it doesn't work out for you. You'll need your mask Rx to order it online, though.
My best suggestion is to read, read, read this forum.... ask questions, and someone will be by to answer soon. But you must register and give us the info with which to work and give you appropriate guidance!

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Allergic
Thanks, I will. Love you cat! I have a cat named Minnie Pearl because she's alway's so glad to see you!
Re: Allergic
Thanks, Kylee... my cat, who I adopted from a neighbor who could no longer care for him, is a bi-color, seal-point Ragdoll. He is 6 yrs old and a joy to have as a pet. I am so lucky to have been chosen as his adopted mom!
Love to see a pic of Minnie Pearl!

I also adopted my cat from the Hamilton Co Animal Shelter in Dec 2006,she was about a year & a half old then. My cat- Cullen had died the week before. He was 20 & I had him since he was 6 weeks old.
Re: Allergic
hi kylee,92, I too have severe allergies and have had a time trying to find a mask that I could use because they ruin my face,[take the skin right off]. I am currently using the fitlife full mask but it doesn't touch your face much. I am also working with the sleepweaver mask which I love , but i have a problem with mouth breathing. This is really the one i want to use though because it feels so good on the face. i have been using it though, taping my mouth and using a chin strap. I think the sleepweaver is far above all the hard masks! good luck to you.

Re: Allergic
I have allergies but not contact type. But the masks always bother me make me wake up itching every night. I've been trying different liners, paper towels, cotton t-shirts and last night tissue paper. That seems to be the one that is softest but I have to cut a new one each night. I put two tissues together and then cut a hole for my nose or I've I'm wearing the full face mask for my nose and mouth. At least I can wear the mask longer that way even if I do still wake up. Hope you find a solution soon that sounds painful to have you skin peeling.

You probably have Staphyloccal aureus in your nose as a cause of the soreness. Treatment and recolonization is available. First try Bacitracin or Neosporin ointment rolled inside your nostrils 4-8 times a day with a cotton swab. Pinch your nostrils after each application to distribute the product
You should have relief within 48 hours, but this is not the cure, nor is this a treatment for any true allergies you might have.

Re: Allergic
which exact masks did you try?
wish mask did you fit in your nose? fixed nasal pillows, accordian nasal pillows, a hybrid?
I have dermographism, and I found the fixed nasal pillows worked the best for me, less pressure points on my face..
also wearing plush straps on the headgear helps with rashes and such..
I am looking into the sleepweaver also, because I like to sleep on my stomach sometimes..
I understand the newest model has a better fit.

Re: Allergic
Thanks for the help & suggestions. I do have a prescription antibiotic ointment for my nose due to chronic nosebleeds. I am still struggling, I ordered a cloth mask which would be great except they don't come in sizes & it leaks. I tried using paper medical tape but since I have been taking 4mg of medrol(steroid) a day it bruised my face to remove it. I bleed very easy including under my skin. I'm going to see if I can cut some type of soft material to fit & try it under the first mask. I'm trying to decide what to use that wouldn't fray & cause little particles. I know I need the oxygen but being allergic to so many things is a drag.

Kylee,
Consider this filter:
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-filters.php
I have pretty bad allergies, and having really clean air blowing up my nose all night has helped a lot. Irrigating my nose before bedtime also helps.
You haven't told us your pressure settings. Because the Sleepweaver fabric doesn't "cling" to skin as firmly as silicone, it's hard to get a tight seal if your pressure is high. But the SW doesn't seem to need a perfect seal. At 15, with a little tugging and pulling, I can get a seal that's fairly good; there's still leaking, but my AHI is below 5, and my oximeter records very little desaturation below 90%. You have to be able to check your data though. As Sis says, for comfort it's hard to beat.
