S8 Elite II - Always blowing air?

Post by Popi » Tue Jul 27, 2010 4:02 am

I know that the manual states that the machine will blow a little bit of air for a while after use to cool the motor, but my machine is ALWAYS blowing air...24/7. Its only a little bit compared to when I'm actually using it for sleep, but shouldn't the thing turn off?

It shouldn't blow air for longer than an hour, as I understand it, based on this statement in the humidifier's manual:

"Note: In order to assist the heater plate in cooling, some flow generators continue to blow air gently for up to an hour after treatment has stopped. However, you can unplug the device from the power outlet at any time and allow the heater plate to cool without airflow."

There's an auto on/off option, maybe that option is turned off on your machine. But it's been documented here that the Swift LT mask prevents the Auto Off from functioning properly on the S9, so that could be your problem.

See more info here (including Auto Off/On instructions & problem with Swift and S9) : viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53813&p=500480#p500480

Read all of the posts....thanks.

I manually turn the machine off prior to removing my mask (Swift LT), and I knew about the 1hr cool-down, but after that one hour, or 15 hours, the machine is still blowing air at the lower cool-down rate. It's not really a problem...I just don't want the motor to die prematurely.

Try separating the humidifier from the blower (the CPAP machine itself) then reattaching it, to make sure the two are well-attached together. If the machine still blows constantly after an hour, I would probably tell ResMed about it, myself.

My Vpap Adapt SV machine does similar. It always seems to be blowing a very small flow.

I have taken to turning it off after I get up then I turn it back on before bed. I now also remove
the air hose from the humidifier & the humidifier from the machine.

Cheers
