Heated Australian Hose

Post by dkeat » Sun Nov 06, 2005 3:51 am

Have been using my heated hose for about a week now and thought it might be of interest to some to hear about it.

I can not recommend this product highly enough. Last night I had the humidifier on my Remstar Pro turned to the highest setting (5) in celebration of my incipient cold. Not a drop of rainout did I suffer.

The only negative connected with the hose has been the power adapter that I purchased locally. It emits a high-frequency tone something like that which one gets from neon lights or TV sets. Quite annoying. Possibly it was just the brand that I picked up.

This hose is such a great solution, that I really can't understand why it isn't being made by others as well. That the competition does not seem to exist surprises me greatly.

I'm in totally agreement! I love the hose so much that I bought a backup!
And switching hoses sure makes the cleaning/drying process easier!

David,
Just wondering what the temp is in your room at night. We have the same machine and mask and I have used the heated hose for about 4 nights now. It is sooo much better with the heated hose, but I still have some rainout in the Aura portion--nothing like before but my humidifier is only set at 1. I have wrapped Aura's narrow hose. Our temp in the room at night is around 64. Still have some droplets that occassionally make it to my nose when I roll over. Maybe I should wrap the nasal pillows section as well? Maybe it's just MY hot air?

Anybody have any suggestions?
Esther

The hose has completely resolved my rainout issues. Our room is usually at 64 in the winter.

Has anyone had any reliabilty problems? I am wondering how long the hose should be expected to last before needing replacement.

Born Tired, try this do not turn on your humidifier just leave it off( just leave water in your humidifier) Turn your heated hose on and I believe this might solve your problem........I Hope

Thanks th, I may try that if it gets worse as the weather gets colder. When I first got a CPAP over a year ago I only had passover humidification and had some nose bleeds due to the dryness, but I will keep that in mind if this gets worse. It is not intolerable and much better than with a regular hose!! It would be nice to be able to up the humidification and still have 0 rainout as many are experiencing with their heated hoses. With out it I would almost drown whenever I rolled
over. This is way better.

Rainout and Aura

Well, I know what your are referring to. The Aura seems to be special in this regard. I used my Ultra Mirage the last two nights with my Remstar Pro's Humidifier set at 5 and 4 respectively. Not a drop of rainout in the hose. I have used the Aura with the humifier at 3 and had no problems. We live in Switzerland and sleep with an open window so I assume the room temperature is similar to yours. The climate here is similar to NY, NJ, or New England at this time of year. I don't know why you are having that problem.

Rested Girl suggested turning off the humidifier and using the heated hose only. That seems to work and you get the benefit of humidification in a sort of "passover" mode.

Assuming all things are the same, it could only be the temperature in your room. Perhaps not having the window open so wide might warm things up a bit.

It seems to me the pressure might make a difference too - less chance of rainout (with the heated hose) for those whose pressure is higher.

David,
Actually, we have 63-64 degrees in our room with the windows shut and the heater kicking on during the night. Running mostly in the 30s and 40s at night here in New England. Already had snow just a few miles from here.

Not really quite enough moisture with just the passover mode.

I have 3 other masks but the Aura is the only one that is comfortable and doesn't leak for me. Even with the rainout tendency, I'll stick with my Aura! At least until something better comes along.

Ozij may have a point about the pressure being a factor. I have just recently gotten an AutoPap with software but am waiting on the card reader so I still don't know exactly how high the pressure goes. The highest I've seen is only 8. What is your pressure set for?

Hi Esther,
My highest is 7.5 - and it rarely gets there.... I remember David's is much higher!

At the moment I have my Auto set for 4 to 10, but last night it never went over 8 and the vast majority of the time it was at 4.

David,
Looks like I might be wrong about the pressure/ rain out connection.
hmmm, and is my memory playing me tricks, or did you really start out higher?

Maybe I'll see if I can rig a wrap for the nasal loop portion of the Aura and see if that helps. I did have one "water up the nose" episode last night. But my main hose is doing great. One day I'll get it all worked out and be able to sleep all through the night--I hope.
