Here is a thread splain'in the details for the Ace Bandage trick ...JPO wrote:Yeah, that looks like me in my more extreme experiments. I'll try the Superband and the blue tape. I'll also experiment with the Ace bandage. I see potential there.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I'm very pleased with Chin-up strips. http://www.chinupstrip.com/index.html I started with the "boomerang" shaped strips but my cheek skin is too fragile, so now I use the "horseshoe" shaped strips that do not extend to the side to my cheek apples. I've also been using their ReliaMed® Protective Barrier Wipes before application of the strips.

Frankly, taping over my mouth with any kind of tape makes me nervous. Chin-up strips are applied below and to the side of the mouth and hold the lips together, but leave enough space to cough or take a sip of water.

I have fibromyalgia in addition to OSA. I take Lunesta at bedtime.

There is one aspect of this that I haven't made clear - my jaw can be clenched tight and I will still breathe through my lips. That's why many products that don't cover the lips don't work for me.sunnyway wrote:I'm very pleased with Chin-up strips. http://www.chinupstrip.com/index.html I started with the "boomerang" shaped strips but my cheek skin is too fragile, so now I use the "horseshoe" shaped strips that do not extend to the side to my cheek apples. I've found that the 3M micropore tape is so effective that I only need to use a small piece and press it on very lightly - when I wake in the morning the tape is still in place doing it's job but it's so easy to remove. I used to tape my whole mouth and press the tape on tight but the next morning it was painful to remove and felt like I was removing a layer of skin. Also I don't like the feeling of taping too tightly - too claustrophobic !

Thanks mz blue, I'll try that.TrueBlue wrote:I've found that the 3M micropore tape is so effective that I only need to use a small piece and press it on very lightly - when I wake in the morning the tape is still in place doing it's job but it's so easy to remove. Re: Mouth Taping - adhesive irritation
Has anyone who uses the Micropore tape found that they could not use the blue painter's tape but could use the Micropore? I tried the painter's tape but I found myself taking it off in the night because the moisture from my breath or mouth made it not stick anymore.
I also tried the Poligrip strips and they don't seem to stick for me either. I wake up with my mouth open and the strip all mushed up in one spot. I have a large overbite so my upper lip meets my lower one on the smooth inner part of my lower lip instead of the dry outer part. Maybe this has something to do with it.
Anyone else have this trouble? If so, any tape you can suggest?

I noticed that the blue tape did get moist and loose when I used it last night. I remembered then why I didn't use it. I am going to try two or three layers and see if that helps. I'm using the delicate. I have tried about every other tape that I could find.momof2inmn wrote:Has anyone who uses the Micropore tape found that they could not use the blue painter's tape but could use the Micropore? Re: Mouth Taping - adhesive irritation
When I tape I use "Hypafix" medical tape. It is slightly stretchy and has very tiny "micropores". I find the micropores are tiny enough that they do not allow any air to escape but do allow the skin to "breathe". Before removing the tape, I apply a basic cold cream and allow it to sit for a minute or so. I then remove a tiny portion of tape at a time and keep applying a bit more cold cream to the skin along the leading edge of the tape as I am removing it. It is important that you pull in a horizontal direction (parallel to the skin). This seems to prevent skin irritation for me.

I used to work with premies. We used tincture of benzoin on their very delicate skin. It secured the tape for IVs and put a layer of protection on their skin. to remove the tape we used acetone, basically nail polish remover.
Tincture of benzoin should be available in amy pharmacy.
The chemical in the tape that aggravates everyone is possibly latex. Most of the old adhesive tapes had latex in them. It tears up my skin.
Another thing to try is coban. I'm not sure I spelled that correctly. It lookes a bit like ace wrap but has a sticky quality to it. It doesn't really stick to your skin but sticks ligtly to itself. So, if you wrap it around your face and went to the back of your head it would overlap and stick together. I've never tried it but it is an idea. Phlebotomists use it after they draw blood out of your arm to hold the cotton wad and pressure on the puncture site.
New to this forum. Evenwith all my nursing background I never thought about trying to tape my nasal pillow. Doesn't it itch? Almost all tape makes me itch...then it breaks down my skin.

The adhesive pads I used were non-latex, but I don't know if that refers to the tape and the adhesive.Sewbusy wrote:I used to work with premies. I have used the coban wrap but I need a solid surface because I breathe between my lips.
The tincture of benzoin sounds worth trying but I'm not sure about "acetone in the morning."
Re: Mouth Taping - adhesive irritation
I only taped my lips shut -- and I had to tape the full breadth of my mouth because otherwise air streamed out from any possible crack it found. Never had an itch with the Micropore 3M. Never tried taping the nasal pillow to my nose.

Both of these are very volatile if I am not mistaken. I shudder at the thought of having either of them that close to my nose!Sewbusy wrote:I used to work with premies. Tincture of Benzoin has an alcohol solvent base.
Both alcohol and acetone are VOCs. Acetone is more volatile than alcohol.
According to Wikipedia, there are two forms of tincture of benzoin. For the purposes stated here compound tincture of benzoin is the correct form.

Re: Mouth Taping - adhesive irritation
After much experimentation I found that the problem was that no matter how gently I removed the micropore tape it still pulled skin off my face. The problem was not allergy but removal. The solution came to me one morning - my saliva, using my tongue, loosens the tape. Applying the saliva with my finger underneath the tape along the outer edges loosens that also, but it takes a few minutes of applying it to work.
Good old human spit does the job again.

I found "good old human spit" works to my disadvantage when taping my mouth. I use paper tape for sensitive skin and the tape is always loosened at the corners of my mouth in the morning.JPO wrote:After much experimentation I found that the problem was that no matter how gently I removed the micropore tape it still pulled skin off my face. I'll have to read the thread about using an ACE bandage, but it sounds like it might not be too smart to do in the event you became sick to your stomach. Think Mama Cass...
The nasal pillow masks are extremely comfortable, but this mouth breathing problem seems to be a major issue with those who have it. Whatever I do to remedy it will need to be something I can do every night for the rest of my life - or until new technology/equipment comes along. Do I want to tape my mouth shut every night for the rest of my life??
