Forgot my cpap
Forgot my cpap
Took a trip this weekend and forgot my cpap. I realized it after it was too late to turn back. I freaked for a few minutes and than thought "cool..a few nights break FROM THE MACHINE!" Well... they were bad nights! I tossed and turned all night long, had major aches and pains( blamed it all on the sofabed) laid there awake for hours it seemed.I couldn't wait to get home. Thank God it was only two nights or I would have gone crazy. Came home and was so happy I had my cpap to use and I slept the whole night. It has been 2 nights and I will never forget my cpap again! It is going to be the first thing in my car!!
Re: Forgot my cpap
This is good news....
Some learn to appreciate the good things about being hosed up only by contrast of sleeping "free of the machine" either willfully or forgetfully....
Glad you are making friends!!
Good health!!

Re: Forgot my cpap
It is a hard lesson to learn and sorry you slept so poorly.
Glad you learned from it though.

Re: Forgot my cpap
I forgot my machine one and decided to turn back (I visit a lot of hotels), now when I'm packing the car the first thing I do is put a travel CPAP bag into the car, I also pack my main CPAP into my roller bag, so I also have a 2nd backup just in case I need one with additional mask and hose.
I've never yet required a spare mask, hose or machine, but if I do forget to pack my main one in the roller bag, then I at least have one in the car anyway. Sometimes I leave one in the boot/truck of the car so I don't have to remember to put one in there (it's one of my older S8's).
Thanks
Dave

Re: Forgot my cpap
I put an old CPAP with both AC and DC power cords in the trunk of my car along with some other emergency things. I got in the habit of packing emergency stuff in my car when I had to travel on some really isolated roads for work.
Re: Forgot my cpap
Thank God my brother had a spare mask I could use, we split shifts for the machine.
always a hosehead, almost a hoser.
Re: Forgot my cpap
Funny story! Thanks both for sharing and for the warning to pack cpap first!
Re: Forgot my cpap
Wish I'd read this before I left home today! I'm at my inlaws and my CPAP machine is all packed up (ready to go) 3 1/2 hours away at home. Somehow, it got missed when we were packing up the "essentials" for our 5 month old and I didn't realize it until we got here.
This will actually be the first night I've slept without my CPAP machine since I started using it March of 2009. I'm really disappointed, and a little bit apprehensive about even going to sleep. Ugh.. and to think, before I went for my sleep studies, I thought "There's no way I'll ever use a Darth Vader mask to sleep!". Now, I'm fretting going to sleep WITHOUT it!

Re: Forgot my cpap
I have not traveled since I went on cpap. I will be going camping soon. I have a travel trailer. Hopefully your thread will jog my memory not to forget to pack my machine.
It is amazing how fast you go from wondering how you will fare using the gear to not wanting to sleep without it.

Re: Forgot my cpap
Well, I survived but had the WORST two nights of sleep of my life. The first night, I was up literally every 10 minutes.. tossed and turned all night, had dry mouth, headache, snoring and was gasping for breath. It was almost like being in withdrawl! I finally crawled out of bed, dreading that I'd have to sleep another night like that.
If you don't realize how valuable your CPAP therapy is, forget it at home. A) You'll NEVER forget it again and B) You'll never take it for granted again.

Re: Forgot my cpap
I went thru this last week too. I remembered right before I decided I wanted to go to bed. I thought I would be fine just for 1 night but boy was I wrong! I kept waking up every 10-15min for the first 4 hours then I think I ended up getting about hrs of sleep but felt absolutely awful the next day. Really reminded me of how I used to feel before I got my cpap back in Feb of this year. How did I survive feeling like that everyday for years?! LOL As shitty as I felt the next day, I was really glad it happened because we were planning a camping trip in a tent this summer but now I'm not so sure thats a good idea! Guess I'll have to look into a battery for my machine.
Re: Forgot my cpap
Last October my wife and I went to the mountains in our RV. We got there and set up camp. I realized I had left my primary machine at home by my bed.
Thankfully I had my spare machine in the RV [we had gone out the weekend before and I left my spare machine in the RV] Talk about panic....also being at 4500ft elevation. I always take both machines with me. I have one set up in the RV, one set up next to my bed, and a spare in the travel bag.

Re: Forgot my cpap
One of these days I will get around to posting pics of the mcguyver-ing i had to do on my mask when I forgot just *one little piece* to the mask at home (left hanging on the other hose). At first I felt even more stupid than if I had forgotten the ENTIRE setup at home! Some tape, hair scrunchies and clips and an hour later I could sleep, more or less.
