Perhaps alpha wave intrusions (AWI) serve as preliminary or precursor symptoms in some cases---with AWI initially resulting from subliminal pain that progresses into supraliminal pain months/years later.SleepingUgly wrote: I had alpha intrusions noted on my sleep studies dating back to 1995, and only started having pain in 2006...Maybe alpha intrusions are like prophecies

Re: CompSA, Hypoventilation, PLMs, Bradycardia and Hypotension?
Apart from not being able to kneel without pain for some years, I have also had acute pain in my wrist and ankle ligaments when I stretch my hands or feet palm/sole-wards - I just put this down to getting older and being less active. Maybe this is some sort of carpal tunnel-type problem, a feature also associated with RA, if I have read Goog-Oracle correctly. (Subliminal) "pain is such a rush" - NOT!-SWS wrote:Perhaps alpha wave intrusions (AWI) serve as preliminary or precursor symptoms in some cases---with AWI initially resulting from subliminal pain that progresses into supraliminal pain months/years later.

Since starting on prednisone
Hi all,
I think this data shows some interesting trends in my respiration data, as recorded by a VPAP Adapt SV, since I commenced consuming 25mg of prednisone (an oral steroid) every a.m. to treat relatively-newly-emergent joint pain and inflammation:

Notice the clear increase in minute ventilation and RR (95th percentile) with the steroid in my system. In combination with 400mg ibuprofen I can wake up without joint pain. Not sure of the clinical significance of this trend. I am now without EDS. Off to see a rheumatologist tomorrow. Cheers,

Are you taking ibuprofen daily for a long period of time? If so, think about adding a PPI.

Hey BB, sorry I haven't been following this forum for about 2 months now and in the meantime this monster thread has grown to an insane 70+ pages (so that means I need to catch up on about 35 pages ).
Anyhooo, I see you are now dealing with arthritis issues? Did you ever resolve the hypothryoid question? One of the symptoms of hypothyroidism is joint pain. Did I post this here already? : http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroid ... cklist.htm
on a personal note, I had been getting more and more joint pain especially problems in my knees (which my doc said was due to age, a ripe old 32! ), but since getting on the right dose of the thyroid meeds it seems to be getting better, and no pain left at all in my fingers. Fwiw.

Nothing stands out as far as average SPO2 goes, staying in the 94->95% band according to the pulse ox. software. Cheers,

RA diagnosis by rheumatologist
Rheumatologist believes I have rheumatoid arthritis, and that it is purely coincidental that I also have OSA. When I mentioned the possibility of fluoxetine-withdrawal-induced RA symptoms, he commented that this was unlikely due to RA symptoms emerging prior to fluoxetine withdrawal. Didn't believe that there was any evidence for hypothyroidism based on thyroid function blood results and my normal cholesterol levels. He also didn't believe that I had hyperparathyroidism based on my normal calcium results.blizzardboy wrote:Tomorrow I am off to see a rheumatologist.
Based on my symptoms and blood results he believed that I have rheumatoid arthritis, something that affects 1 in 400 males.
So now I am starting on: methotrexate; an antimalarial drug; folate; and a specific brand of Norwegian fish oil for its omega-3 anti-inflammatory benefit (discovered through clinical trials done at Adelaide University; has mercury and vitamin A removed). I am to gradually weaning off prednisone - according to the rheumatologist my GP had prescribed me quite a high dose of the oral steroid - and ramp up my dose of methotrexate over the coming weeks. Weekly blood tests have been prescribed. The rheumatologist said that I am not to take ibuprofen (NSAID) while taking the steroid, but can take paracetamol if an analgesic is required to assist with sleep.
So there you have it: BB is currently a member of the RA-OSA-PLM-AWI subset. Cheers,

Re: CompSA, Hypoventilation, PLMs, Bradycardia and Hypotension?
Hi SU (hopefully with a healing throat), on the 5th of this month I started taking 400mg of ibuprofen with milk most nights before bed to successfully assist prednisone in suppressing the development of pain and swelling in my joints as I sleep. Last night I didn't take it and I had developed sore finger joints by this morning. What do you reckon, enough ibuprofen to warrant munching on a few PPIs? Cheers,SleepingUgly wrote:Are you taking ibuprofen daily for a long period of time? If so, think about adding a PPI.
