Does Remed Still Manufacture S8 Elite II
Does Remed Still Manufacture S8 Elite II
I wanted a S9 when I got my machine but my cardiologist said I didn't need it. When I got the machine S8 Elite II from my DME he said it was manufactured in 2010, I was just checking before I go to my drs. appt. Also do DME's who provide CPAPS required to have a RT in house?

The S9 is great, BUT

It is either old stock, or they are getting a nice discount on older models from ResMed and then charging your insurance company full price. IE: jacked up profits!
Some people won't care, so tell them to save the S8 for them. In fact, only abut 50% of people actually use their Cpap. So let one of those folks put it in their closet.
I don't know what your cardiologist is saying. You are usually expected to keep a machine for 5 years before insurance will buy you another, so you may as well get a current model! Just be polite but obstinate. Act stupid if you have to, ignore all of the reasons and excuses they give you (the S9 is new and not tested yet, etc. etc.) The S9 is a great machine, no problems. The S8 is obsolete (unless you have to pay yourself and are trying to save money.)
Just repeat: I want an S9. If I don't get an S9 I am going to go to another DME.
Better decide on the mdel that you want too, and specify that.
You are the second one today!
Good luck!

• 1. The usual insurance replacement interval is THREE years. That's also the Medicare guideline.
• 2. Yes, the S9 is great, except for:
a) One will NOT get instant on pressure. It will take ten seconds to get to the minimum pressure. Some find this uncomfortable and they hold their breath until there's sufficient pressure, and
b) The EPR is not as detectable as the S8. I'm not convinced my S9 (full time EPR, level = 3) EPR is working, so I'm trying to find a manometer device to check it. There are other posts in this Forum which indicate the EPR is not nearly as noticeable as with the S8. The S8 EPR feeling was heavenly.
If you demand "instant on" pressure and/or a definite sensation of Expiratory Relief, then get the S8.

Re: Does Remed Still Manufacture S8 Elite II
There was the Resmed S8 Series, new in 2006, and the Resmed S8 II series, new in 2008. Now the Resmed S9 Series in 2010. Look on the bottom of that S8 II they want to give you for the Serial Number. Resmed starts their SNs w/the 4 numbers of the year it was manufactured. For the CPAPs the next two numbers are the month. That doesn't hold true for the more sophisticated PAPs other than the 4 first numbers being the year of manufacture. Having had a couple of S8s I'm not so sure I wouldn't prefer them over the S9s. The S8s were one heck of a CPAP/APAP! I loved mine and I love my VPAP Auto which is what you might consider an S8.5 or S8 1 1/2 (not quite an S8 II).

Ooops. TYPO. Yes, it's every five years EXCEPT with a machine type change. If one changes to a BiPAP, Medicare will cover it at anytime, even after one year.
