Encore Pro

Post by Snoozie » Sat Nov 05, 2005 8:18 am

I just received an envelope to send my Encore Pro card back to my RRT (DME). They are going to read the data and send it back. He said it will tell them if any changes need to be made and they will then send it back. Will it tell them if I am still having apneas?

My question is do all of you purchase your own Card Reader or do they furnish them for you? I'm not so sure that one would be of benefit to me and since I am not an expert why invest in one? I would like to ask for a copy of my data, though. Has anyone ever done that? Can they send me a copy via e-mail?

Snoozie,

If you have the Respironics REMstar Pro machine (as the picture below your post indicates), it will only record "compliance" data (hours) and not snores, apneas, hypopneas, etc. Consequently, purchasing the card reader and software wouldn't be of any benefit to you. The only straight CPAP machine that Respironics makes that will record the detailed data is the Pro 2 model (the one I have). Respironics' "auto" model (w/CFLEX) also collects the detailed info. So, if you decide you want to see the details of what's happening while you sleep, you'd have to upgrade to one of those machines.
In view of the fact that your current machine doesn't collect the detailed data, I have no idea what (if any) "changes" your DME/RRT could suggest (unless you haven't been "compliant").

Best wishes,

Den

OOPs I have the wrong machine in my picture. I didn't read them closely, it just looked like mine. I just looked at my machine andt it is the Remstar Pro2 with C-Flex. I will have to change my pic.
Thank You!

Snoozie,

THERE YA GO!!! (I see you got the pic changed)

That changes all of my answers to you in the post I made.

Depending on how "savvy" your RRT/DME is, the answer is a qualified "yes", they can see the details of your sleep (for about a week, anyway). I'm told it will store quite a bit of "compliance" data (sleep hours), but only about a week's worth of the detailed info.

Hope that tells you what you want to know.

Best wishes,

Den

Great News! I started out on my 1st few weeks feeling like a new person, and this past week, I am kind of dragging again. I am hoping that they will be able to tell if my pressure may need to be turned up a little now that I have adjusted to the machine. I guess if I am not feeling better, I may have to do a trial of BiPap, but I will have to wait and see what they say. I wonder why they didn't ask for the card sooner, if it only holds a weeks worth of data, though.

Thanks, Den, I appreciate the information.

Hi Snoozie.

I forgot to reply to one other question you asked earlier......about getting a copy of your report. If I were you, I would. That should be a reasonable request. The reason they probably didn't ask for it earlier is to give you some "get used to it" time on the machine. As far as you feeling like you're "dragging".....that's pretty typical of this therapy. Some weeks will be better or worse than others. However, that's also true of people who are "normal". Depending on how long we've been "sleep deprived", it can take some time for our systems to heal.
As far as the pressure setting goes, I doubt that they would make any adjustments this early in your therapy (unless they started you out on a very low or very high setting). And if they did, they might have to clear it with your doctor first......maybe.

Good luck with your therapy.
