Resmed Quattro Full Face

Post by cpapdr1 » Fri Jul 02, 2010 2:16 pm

Has anyone else been having irritation problems and fitting problems with the Resmed Quattro Full Face ?
We've had a lot of patients that have complained about a sore bridge on the nose after using...

yes, indeed. for me the quattro provides the choice of sore nose bridge or sore forehead from the support.

i find the cushion deteriorates rather quickly which necessitates strap tightening or dialing down the micro-dial on the forehead support.
my insurance will pay for a new cushion monthly, and I'm taking them up on that offer...however, I've been so disappointed in this mask that I've decided to purchase a Hybrid mask, insurance and their 'one mask per year policy' be dammed, out of my own pocket.

I learned using a headgear that has a adjustable strap over the top of the head keeps the mask from sliding down the face at night. I used one from fisher, no more sore nose.

I had a sore on the nose for the first week or so. After that - no problems. Been using it for 6 months now.

For those of us with serious negative impacts from OSA, the full face makes tge most sense. I want to get the best therapy possible.

I have started to rotate in the Activa for part of the night on thee hot nights when I need a break from the FF. Also have a Swift. That might be a good strategy to start, swapping masks. Any one mask is likely to cause irritation at first.

think it was off a flex fit HC 431. It is also thicker and less strechy You could just try to tie a ribbon across the top center of your head on the resmed headgear.

Yup, me too (but only for a few days). I've been using the Quattro FFM since 29 June. Day after first night I had a bruised face and 'blister' on my nose bridge. Loosened headgear and experimented with micro-dial over the next few days and have been acceptably comfortable since with negligible leaking.
Advice from elsewhere on this forum = '...Loose is better. Gives mask space to inflate/expand and thus give better seal.' (Or words to that effect )

Common problem. Two causes I've determined, setting the forehead brace dial too close to face and putting the mask on too low on the face. The bottom of the seal should just rest below the lip.

I have used a Quattro FFM for about 7 months now with no HUGE complaints. I used a Swift for a few weeks, until I got use to it, and I started mouth breathing, hence the switch to the FFM. I didn’t have any problems with bruising, sores, or anything like that. Its very uncomfortable, but I make do. I have heard of people using a sweatband under where the forehead pads go to alleviate the discomfort or bruising of your forehead. As far as the nose area goes, they must have the "micro-dial" too low. They need to loosen up on the bridge of the nose and put more pressure on the forehead. I don’t like the fact that I mouth breath and almost drown myself in drool in the middle of the night, but with out the FFM, I would be at a loss.

The Quattro was my first mask, and caused a giant sore on the bridge of my nose. I switched to a Liberty and a Hybrid, but constantly struggled with straps and bands and various things to try to keep enough upward pressure to seal the nasal pillows.

I tried the Quattro again after several months and was getting the sore again after the first night. Then I bought a nosebridge protector from Pad A Cheek : http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Nosebridge.html It has a pad on the forehead and down into the mask over the bridge. It might as well have been MAGIC! No more sore nose!

I use this mask. I love it. It does take some fine tuning to get it just right. I will be honest and say my forehead was sore for the first few days of wearing it and I loosened it a bit and no more soreness.

Hear, hear. This purchase was a revelation for me (too) - saved my nose bridge.

The Padacheek quattro stabilising strap has also been fantastic for reducing leaks. I also use the Papcap which also helps reduce leaks by stabilising my lower jaw. (nothing like a free ad...hmmm...now what was my fee structure again?)
