Acne with CPAP

Post by fuhrtops » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:13 am

I've only been on CPAP for about a week but I've noticed I have acne where my mask fits. Does anyone else have this problem? I wash my face before I put the mask on each night but it doesn't appear to be helping. Any advice would be appreciated.

Many of us with sensitive skins have a fabric gasket between our skin and the mask. I just cut a triangle out of well wash cotton knit ( old under wear) and hold the mask up and cut out a hole for the nose and mouth. to put it on lay the fabric on the mask and lean forward.

You can also buy disposable things on cpapdotcom

I don't get acne, I end up with what looks and feels like burn marks where the mask touches my skin beside my nose.

Been there, done that.

Best bang for the buck and comfort.

all new masks, airhoses and headgear are full of chemicals such as starch, size, release agent, theres said to be outgassing from the silicone rubber

soak it all in warm (not hot) water with mild detergent then gently wash with fingers, suck the water into airhose, then rinse and dry using a towel
allergies to the silicone rubber are a rare possibility but you would probably already know if you had this problem

Not enough - the slick silicon blocks the pores from "breathing" or can cause contact dermatitis. Nothing to do with allergies.

Cellulitis recommendations someone?

Post by lipseplibrips » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:18 pm

hi girls, may I ask you one issue? Since i'm working in the amusement big business, I travel on a regular basis and by no means have enough time at the same town. For couple of times already I paid for anti-cellulitis procedures, but I i'm not able to go at the same beauty clinic, as I am going to work. Furthermore, there will not be any worthy effect, since I am not able to go to the health resort for the procedures every 1 week or even 2 -three times a week...That's why, I purchased some lotions and other products with a purpose to operate with them at hotel, by myself, but I don't really think they are improving me. Could you please suggest me some other way that is small and that will help me? I'm willing to check out everything, since I am still young and this is really troubling me. Thank you ahead of time.

I have very fair, sensitive skin, and after it getting 'toughened' by wearing my mask/s & nasal pillows, my skin is actually very soft and in better condition than it was pre-CPAP.

Weird.

I am very prone to acne, and anything that rubs against my skin can make me break out.

I tried several models of mask, but the only one that does not make me break out is a small one that only fits into my nose. All of the masks that cover my entire nose or whole face will make me break out in one to two days.

I also get acne all over my nose and around the mask line . This is very upsetting. Now I cover the whole area with Calamine lotion and a large bandaid before I put the mask on. I suppose any drying agent might help. Opps, there is a new pimple between my nostrils.

I used a nasal mask (instead of my usual nasal pillows mask) for exactly 2 nights a little over 2.5 weeks ago. My skin is just starting to clear up. I haven't had acne that bad since I was a teenager (and even when I was a teenager, I'm not sure it was that bad!). Not sure what to do about it. I just switched back to the nasal pillows mask, which hardly touches my face.

Go to padacheeks.com, Karen will make a mask liner for any mask. Those of you that break out need a mask liner so that the silicone does not touch your skin.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

It's possible that a really good mask cleaning may help.

I wash my ComfortGel nasal mask in the dishwasher. I disassemble it and wash it in the hottest, strongest wash cycle I can get. No dishes in the dishwasher at the same time, extra rinse, no heated dry, unless I forget. I've done this every other week for years and get many months use out of the masks.

I do NOT wash the headgear in the dishwasher.

Maybe, but for some of us our skin simply does not like to be smothered my silicone. A fabric liner deals it nicely.

Well, if cleaning doesn't help, try something else. If it works, it's a cheap and easy fix.
