One of my hobbies is high power rocketry,, that is my half scale Nike smoke, it is about eight fett tall,, 8 inches in diameter, and on its way to 5000 + feet on that launch. My "big" rocket is a 90% scale Harpoon anti ship missle,, 12" in diameter, 16ft tall,, 160lbs launch ready, it uses a man rated ejection seat chute for recovery.WAFlowers wrote:Off topic, THier, what is that a picture of as your avatar? On my screen I get the impression of a small rocket launch, but I'm really not sure.
Check this out,, this was its maiden flight last year, with onboard video!

Oh yea,, don't be afraid of me and my hobbies,,, ATF, and other federal agencies crawled up inside of me and looked around,,, we have to have a "Low explosive users permit" for the propellant we use,, so you can imagian in todays world what we have to go through to keep it, interviews, federal finger prints, photos.

What a coincidence!
My wife is an ATF (now ATFE) inspector who gets to "crawled up inside of me and looked around" high power rocketeers like yourself. You guys are the least of her problems as you're generally intelligent, knowledgable, well-mannered, and understand the necessity of her making the visit.
I would guess you had a more intense visit from the local fire marshall. Some of those guys break out the old fine tooth comb on everyone.
OBTW -- Nice video. Looked like you had a bit of wind that day. Couldn't have asked for a nicer flight IMO: launch, coast, deploy, and landing all looked great.
I'm not the guy to berate anyone's hobby. I couldn't, I own a trebuchet.

Tom, when I said: "small rocket" it was only to seperate it from the tiny model rockets (I got the impression in your avatar that your's was bigger) and the big boys that go off 130 miles east of me. However what you are doing is much bigger than I thought!
Way cool video too!
