Arousals

Post by vapat75 » Fri Jun 04, 2010 7:55 pm

In my sleep study I had a lot of arousals without the cpap and the same number with the cpap. Is there medication for arousals. Before I was on cpap i would wake up 3-4 times a night. I had no trouble getting asleep but could not stay asleep. With the cpap I wakeup 1-2 times and have to adjust my mask. Do the non awakening arousals effect how you feel after sleeping. I spoke with my CRT today and mentioned about medications. I currently take 1 mg of klonpin prescribed by my pcp, he prescribed 2mg but I only take half. Last night I took the klonopin and a melatonin 3 mg. After waking up this morning, I felt that I could not get fully awake all day. Could the melatonin with the klonpin cause this. Also is there medication to prevent non awaking arousals.

All "sleeping pills" (e.g., Ambien, etc.) should raise the threshold for arousals.

On your diagnostic and titration reports, what is the breakdown of the arousals, as in spontaneous, limb movements, etc? Knowing the source of your arousals may help you figure out how to best help them.

Along with the totals, there should be a breakdown of the arousals.
