Hybrid mask

Post by djr1215 » Thu Jun 03, 2010 2:20 pm

Has the Hybrid Full-Face mask been discontinued? I was trying to find a local supplier and was just told by one that the Hybrid had been discontinued.

Yeah, I see it out there, but if it's being discontinued by the manufacturer then I'm not sure I want to get it so that when I need replacement parts they will be available.

Call the folks at cpap.com. They'll probably know if it's being discontinued. Haven't seen that mentioned, though.

Strangely enough (or maybe not) this is the 2nd supplier that told me that a mask (2 different masks) I want to try is being discontinued. I'm wondering if it's just that they don't have those masks and so say they are "discontinued" so I'll settle for something they actually have.

I sure hope this mask isn't being discontinued. I would have a hard time finding one that was as good. I do notice though, that there is no longer a discount on the price. I wonder if Innomed has gone the way of Resmed. Let's hope not. But I deeply fear Obamacare is going to make most medical equipment unaffordable, or encourage manufacturers to use these anticompetitive pricing policies.

I do have some suspicion that the Liberty hybrid mask may have been discontinued. A recent casual search of FFM's did not show it.

I'm highly skeptical of reports of discontinued masks.

I heard it about the first mask I had several times from several people. Last month I was shown that mask twice, and told it most certainly was not discontinued. I've also been told that about the Swift Light nasal pillow I now use, but it's still around, too.

It could be that uneducated DME's assume that a new model means the old one is on its way out.
And don't bother to find out for sure.

About a year ago, I went to replace nasal pillows and headgear, and had to go back three times to get what I needed, plus listen to phone calls where the DMEs begged for the mask from the warehouse. What a show. The mask is not discontinued, nor is it hard to get, but they sure did their best to make it seem that way.

It wasn't hard to leave them at all. Fortunately I had a choice.

There were rumblings around here over a year ago about this same thing, so I wrote to customerservice@mergenetsolutions.com and asked. This was the response from Cheryl at chart@innomedinc.com when I asked if it was being discontinued:

"Thank you for your input. We love getting feedback from our customers on our products. This is very FALSE information about the Hybrid. This product is very much available. Rest Easy..

Have a nice weekend… Cheryl Hart"

Granted this was in February 2009 and things do change, but I certainly hope I would get the same response today. I really have not been able to get any other mask to work as effectively.

I had emailed both manufacturers and just got responses that both masks are still available. The Hybrid was one (Cheryl Hart responded), the Respironics Total Face Mask was the other and Respironics Patient Information Service responded to that one.

For the local DME "discontinued" probably = "we don't want to carry this one" or "we don't have it in stock right now."
