I wish WW paid more attention to sodium content. Diabetes runs in my family, and my cholesterol and triglycerides are high, so I need to cut back simple carbs and saturated fats. One item I wish to completely eliminate are sodas.
One thing I learned a long time ago is to read the labels on *everything*, even "healthy" prepared food. Back when I was in my early 20's and working out all the time the gym I was at was giving away samples of "healthy" low-fat soup. One serving had 150% of the RDA for sodium. A rule of thumb I've found is that there are three "bad" things in all prepared foods; sugar, fat, and sodium. When a company makes a "healthy" version of their food they will lower one and raise one or both of the other two to compensate. No kidding, compare a "low sodium" version of say, a can of soup with the same company's regular version of the same soup. It will have more fat or carbs (or both).

Same thing for "gimmicks" (as I call them) like "slim fast". Take a can of slim fast and a can of Pepsi. Compare the nutrition labels. Same amount of sugar. Drink a pepsi, pop a multi-vitamin, same nutrition content (not that I would ever suggest this, it's just an example).

A trick my doctor taught me when my wife had gestational diabetes was to only shop around the perimeter of a store. That's where the fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, etc is. Once you go down an isle you are in "forbidden territory". Of course the stores have caught on and are putting junk food there now too.

Just checking in with everyone to see what is going on

I have been on Weight Watchers the past few days. I am really glad I joined. It is not that hard to follow and I have been eating really healthy meals.

However, because I am not overeating, I see to be really moody. Mainly more like I am feeling my feelings rather than stuffing them down with food. Well, feeling things sucks, just saying I am a bit sad, with the divorce date being set, etc. I mean, yes, he treated me horribly so I am happy to be getting divorced, but right now I feel sort of lost in the world. Gotta work on finding out what makes ME happy. So basically, I am eating great but feeling miserable

I hope this is not my true personality! That maybe I was only chipper because I was high on food. Hopefully not!

Started this year right at 300lbs. As of yesterday, down to 236. Only watched my blood sugar and carbs. What a change and I'm not hungry all the time either.

You are making a lot of changes in a short period of time - so give it time, I suspect you'll end up much happier in the end. Good luck.

After spending the last couple of weekends cleaning and painting and moving boxes for my daughter's move I realized that I don't know when I am hungry until it is too late and my hands are shaky and my knees get week. At that point I need to eat and will eat just about anything so I am too much into a feeding frenzy to cook. This is very annoying as that means I need to eat even when I am not hungry which has been something I am trying to avoid.

I keep sliced veggies around all the time to eat, have in salads, saute if I can wait long enough. I keep small cans of chicken-tuna-salmon around for emergencies and sliced grilled chicken & beef in freezer to nuke for salads or atop sauteed veggies. Scrambled eggs topped with veggies & cheese & salsa. Hard-boiled eggs diced & nuked with some butter & coconut oil (the unflavored variety ) or sliced & topped with lemon-pepper seasoning. When I'm in distress (hypoglycemic) I eat a Dove small square, about 5 grams of carb, while I hunt for some protein to snarf down. Maybe a few of these ideas might spark your ideas for stocking your emergency food stash. lately i've been carrying around Pure Protein's chocolate deluxe bars...15 gms carb (ouch) but they do fine in a pinch when there's no good food choices.

PS I try to eat something at least every 4 hrs to prevent getting hungry. Once I'm hungry, all bets are off on sticking to reasonable eating...been a bad few months & I've gained wt

So the daughter is now officially moved out! Does that 130 lbs count towards weight loss?

It does remove a level of stress and I now have lots of room to use to work out. Having met her roommates I now have full trust in her ability to survive on her own - I mean if they can do it she should be able to fly towards success with ease!

I lost 15 lb. since March. I just can not get myself to exercise and I know that I should. I do qi gong and that has helped with lung capacity and flexibility, a lot.

There is a school of taught that says the hunger you get is basically a need for water - try drinking water every time
you get this hunger.

A spoon of lime juice in a glass of water helps - your body alkalinity has to be propped up to reduce natural fat formation
is also a proposition of this School.... Have your body balanced to 7.5 pH.

I am bumping this thread because I have lost 19 pounds. Well, as of two weeks ago, anyway. I haven't had time to go back down to the nurses office.

I'm glad you bumped it, I was wondering if anyone was doing it still. Congratulations on weight lost, hang in there to those not doing so well. I'll have to read through the thread, lots more posts with some good ideas since the last time I saw it. I go to the dr. this afternoon. Hoping to have some good news myself in the weight department.

I have to go to the doctor on Thursday. I am not sure if it is an apnea check or about the blindness. At any rate, he doesn't have a scale so I wont get weighed. What kind of doctor's office doesn't have scale? Anyhow, good luck!

I have made a commitment to try, after today's follow-up w/my PCP and my bp was elevated, once again. I've got to do something about this, because I know when I weigh less, my bp is not as elevated. Now I am in no way saying that a little weight loss will get me off of the cpap machine. I'm pretty much convinced that I had OSA even when I was thinner. I was at least 100 lbs thinner in college, and I can remember falling asleep in places where I certainly shouldn't have, with no awareness of my surroundings. So I'm not convinced that it's completely tied to my weight. But, I digress......I still need to work on losing the weight regardless because cpap on its own is not going to keep me from having a heart attack from having high blood pressure due to my being overweight! I've got a plan...and one part I've already begun to implement by cutting out carbonated drinks. We'll see how this goes.
