Leak rate question with S9
I'm going to start a new topic because I think my question was too buried in another thread that I think I was hijacking.
Last night I slept with the Activa-LT, at a pressure of 9-13, with a median pressure of 9.7 and a maximum pressure of 11.7. Last night my maximum leak rate was 2.4 (yes, I got the decimal in the right place!), median leak rate was 0, a 95% leak rate was 0. At a pressure of 10, the intentional leak rate is 31, per the Activa-LT manual:
http://www.resmed.com/au/assets/documen ... nz_eng.pdf
How can I have a maximum leak rate of 2.4? Am I going to asphyxiate?!

Re: Leak rate question with S9
With ResMed, you set the Mask Setting: Full, Nasal, Ultra Mirage Nasal, or Pillows. It subtracts the mask vent rate, so the leak rate you're seeing is your actual leak rate. 0 is perfect!

Oh!!! So which number should I be looking at to interpret my leak rate, median, 95th %, or maximum? And how do I interpret anything other than 0?KatieW wrote:With ResMed, you set the Mask Setting: Full, Nasal, Ultra Mirage Nasal, or Pillows. For example, using another mask on another day, I had these leak rates:
Median = 0
95% = 4.8
Max = 24.0
and another day:
Median = 0
95% = 12
Max = 16.8

Ah... now I find that you have a "new" S9...
I answered on the other thread before I saw this.
You are trying to find the difference in ResMed machines.
Katie gave you the same answer.

Re: Leak rate question with S9
For ResMed, the acceptable leak rate is under 12 liters/minute.
At a leak rate of 24 l/m, it starts to affect therapy, and the data is unreliable.
I look at the 95% leak rate, but you need to study your graphs for meaningful information, to learn when and how long your leaks were.

Katie...Which rate is shown on the LCD screen of the S9? I don't have software so that is the number I see daily. Is that median/maximum or 95%? Also, there seems to be a new "drive" being sold on cpap.com that you can plug directly into the pc with the sd card attached to get data. Do you know if this be comparable data to what you get with the rescan software? It seems to be quite new and when I looked a few days ago it didn't have any reviews. Thanks in advance...your posts are always so informative. Kathy

Yes, the rate on the lcd screen is the 95%.ksilb wrote:Katie...Which rate is shown on the LCD screen of the S9? I don't have software so that is the number I see daily. Is that median/maximum or 95%? I went to cpap.com to find the "drive" you're talking about, and didn't see it. Could you provide a link?
also, I sent you a PM.

Re: Leak rate question with S9
Here's the link:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/generi ... eader.html
It appears to me, that this would give direct access by just plugging it into the usb port on the pc but I'm not sure if that works. If this card reader is a direct access of some sort it would seem worth the $13. I don't have an input on my computer for an SD card so would have to have a reader I suppose but thought that was what this device would replace or be.
Also, thank you for the information about the leak rate. Since you said you watch the 95% number I presume that is the most relevant? I haven't seen 0 yet but last night was pretty low at 2.4.
Sorry, hope this did not hijack the original threadline...Kathy

Re: Leak rate question with S9
Kathy, your link is to a SD card reader. You could buy this one, or just use a generic SD card reader from a computer/electronics store.
This is how I do it: You take the SD card out of your cpap, go to your computer and open ResScan 3.10, then plug in the card reader. ResScan will find the card reader...then insert the card, and following the steps, you can download the information on the card.

Re: Leak rate question with S9
Do you find you ever have problems with it not recognizing there is a card and downloading it? About 1/3-1/2 of the time I have to try repeatedly, or reboot, and even then it seems like a crap-shoot whether it will load. Maybe I should be shutting down Rescan in between times that I load, like you are. Then, like you, open Rescan, then put in the card. I'll try that.KatieW wrote:This is how I do it: You take the SD card out of your cpap, go to your computer and open ResScan 3.10, then plug in the card reader. BTW, do you do any saving of the data? Or once it's on the computer, the daily details don't disappear after 7 days?
