Wow missing a night can be costly

Post by Uncle_Bob » Mon May 24, 2010 11:31 am

I decided to go without CPAP therapy on Saturday night for the first time since i started 15 months ago

I was amazed at how bad I felt on Sunday, I was definitely not expecting to feel that bad after missing one night. The reason for going without the machine was that my wife was away for the night and my kids were ill and i wanted to hear them in case they had issues during the night. They often get up and need attention and my wife takes care of it all the time. When i have the CPAP on i can't hear them, in fact i can hear hardly anything. I sleep through thunder storms and other loud noises

Its obvious to me now that it takes plenty of time to pay off my sleep debt but only one night to go back to ruin things.

I it took me a while to get out of bed, my head was not clear, I started yawning immediately and felt tense and very nervous. My kids gave me a hard time and as a result i was very nervous and almost having a panic attacks.

I am never doing that again and I'm glad i settled myself down with a large rum & coke and slept 10 hours with the machine last night, all is good again

And boy do i have a huge amount of respect for the machine

I don't know why but on weekends before CPAP I felt like death warmed over. Not so much during the week, for some odd reason. Now I think it's because I slept much longer on weekends, but my sleep was SO poor and I was SO apnic, that I was actually harming myself by sleeping longer.

Now that I have CPAP, I am actually having a hard time sleeping in and I feel about 1000 times better on weekends. I'm still tired and want a nap on weekend afternoons, but not to the degree that I was before.

I'm not even tempted to try to sleep during the night without my CPAP.

Hi there,
Sorry you had to miss a night..

I missed last night too, and went "naked" (wheezing problems)

I feel like a truck ran over me, which is sooooooooooo familiar...

Sometimes I wonder if it seems like you feel worse after a night w/o cpap after you have been on it for awhile, or you just dont
remember how bad it was every night/morning when you didnt have it.

My husband came in the guestroom this am, and instead of saying "good morning!"

he asked, " are you still alive" ?

only cpappers would get that..

And I thought it was going to be respect for your wife, because:

Laughter aside, uncle_bob, most mothers - will tell you they can sleep through thunderstorms, but wake up in a split second if their baby cries. Fathers too.

It isn't only the volume that wakes us up, but what we are tuned to. Maybe you can trust yourself to wake up from pleasant CPAP sleep next time.

Baby monitor transmitters in the kids' rooms and the volume turned up in yours.

Boy I wish. My wife would sleep through a train-wreck. I can't count how many times I've been asked in the morning if our kid fell out of bed during the night. "I thought I heard a thud".

I did this until I got my CPAP so mom would come wake me if my breathing got weird.

Thanks, I think I'll be going with the baby monitors idea next time, I'm not going without CPAP again.
