Leak numbers
Re: Leak numbers
Max,
thanks for the info. I followed the steps you gave me and now I can see everything that happened through the night. Pretty amazing stuff!
I can see that I am leeaking at different times during the night. I must be moving around or something. Maybe its mouth breathing.
Im gonna tape my mouth tonight (man that sounds weird without a partner lol) and also try the cream around my nose.
Sweet dreams everyone!

Re: Leak numbers
I was actually thinking that since the nasal congestion only appeared after I upped the humidity, I would turn the humidity down and try taping my mouth.
i guess looking back now it does sound funny that I am going to suffocate myself tonight! lol
Anyway, I should probably try the simply saline to help the situation but at this point if I try all these things at once I won't know which one solved the problem.
Damn my impatience! lol
I just want to get everything perfect so I can enjoy this new part of my life. So frustrating sometimes. But at least I am excited to get on with it!

Re: Leak numbers
Ok. Last night was much better than the previous two nights. I woke up feeling pretty good. Then about 10 minutes after getting up out of bed my nose started running I have been having to blow it every couple minutes. I set my humidity way down last night, used the lotion around my nose and taped my mouth. My numbers were much better last night. I am just wondering if the runny nose is a normal thing in the morning with using these machines? Also I have a slight headache. Its nothing major, just slightly noticeable. Is that normal as well when beginning treatments?

Re: Leak numbers
The things you mentioned can be "normal" in the beginning while adjusting to cpap therapy.
You need to give changes, such as the ones you made last night, a week or more so that adjustments to the change can happen. I would give it a week and keep a journal of how each morning feels. The headache could be an adjustment as well.
If things get worse, especially the headache, you may need to do some pressure or maks adjsutments. let us know.
I am wondering if you have, as I do, some Spring allergies that cause your nose to begin to run when you are first upright for the day. I don't know where you are in Ontario but here in London, I am dealing with Spring allergies big time this year! I take a Claritin (non- drowsy antihistime - 24 hour time release) every day at lunch time. It keeps me pretty good. I hope I will be done with them soon - at least until the ragweed season hits in the fall.

I am actually in Kingsville (about 1/2 outside of Windsor) and I have never had allergies before.
The headaches seem to be getting better so lets hope every morning they fade a little more.

Re: Leak numbers
i just started a few days ago with the swift fx and i've been having the runny nose upon waking up as well.
Re: Leak numbers
Usually happens to me almost every morning, but at about 20 minutes. Then, one blow and I'm good to go. I consider this as a good thing......especially since I can breathe during the night......and now it's a normal routine.Taylorzzz wrote:Ok. Last night was much better than the previous two nights. Re: Leak numbers
For 1st month or so of CPAP therapy, after 20 mins up horrible runny nose (bend head over and it poured that runny!) but I was in the shower then so it wasn't too much of a problem as it only lasted 10-15 mins. Quit when I found my sweet spot with the humidifier, then recurred when cold weather arrived & I needed more moisture.

Re: Leak numbers
I am a sleep tech (RPSGT). When somebody gets stuffy in the lab, I turn up the humidity to 4 or 5 in order to clear them up. You may some time to get acclimated to CPAP. The suggestions already made on this thread are good. Experiment with the humidity and make sure your mouth is staying closed. My chin strap preference is the Respironics Deluxe Chin Strap.

Re: Leak numbers
My new FX had worked great for a couple of weeks so I was very disappointed when the leaks got out of control. After reading Andrews comment I immediately checked my mask. Sure enough I had cleaned it and reassembled it upside down. Thanks Andrew.AndrewB wrote:I also use the nasal pillows on the Swift FX mask.
A couple of problems that I've had include putting the mask on upside down (yes it is possible) and also with the inner layer of the nasal pillows inverting. Both of these caused an increase in leakage (I just look at the display on the unit).
Other issues I've had have been with poor placement of the pillows or them getting shoved away from my face when I lay on my side.
I've had the unit for a bit over a month now and have gotten used to checking for / adjusting so that these issues aren't a problem.
This mask is the best I have used including the Swift II and the Liberty.
