Comprehensive "Secret Hand Shake" list...

Post by Big Daddy RRT,RPSGT » Sat May 22, 2010 8:46 am

To access the clinical menu and make changes on any pap unit you must know the "secret hand shake". Trying to help patients in the lab I'm always searching for this information. Let's put as many as possible in one thread. If this post already exists let me know...

Resmed S9: With power on, press and hold control wheel and "check check" button at the same time until clinical menu appears.

Reperonics Remstar Plus: Unplug, press and hold power button and ramp button at the same time, plug in, wait for clinical menu to appear.

Resperonics M-series: Unplug, press and hold left and right arrows at the same time, plug in, wait for clinical menu to appear.

Resperonincs System One: With power on, the home screen appears, Turn the wheel to highlight "set up" press and hold the control wheel and ramp button on the device for at least 5 seconds, You will hear a quick double beep and the clinical menu screen will appear.

I take the tags off my pillows, run with scissors, put Q-tips in my ear canal, play with plastic bags, run my blender with the lid off, and access my CPAP clinical menu...I'm dangerous that's how I roll!
What about you? Let us into your "Secret PAP Club"...

BigDaddy, you "say" in your ID that you are an RRT, RPSGT, but I find it difficult to believe that you ARE an RRT, RPSGT given you've publicly posted these "secret handshakes".

In my personal opinion, that not everyone shares, this is information best shared via PM or private e-mail.

I love and adore Slinky - bless her heart - but I think the civil disagreement on this forum is what makes it The BEST on the internet.

That said - all the "secret" info is either in this forum or on the internet ""Already"" and I think it is a great idea to have it all in one spot.

I don't, for a minute, think this will in any way reduce the number of people who start another thread asking for this info.

Ps. Who was it that said "Sunshine is the BEST disinfectant"? Then gave us FOI - Freedom of Information? Was it LBJ?

Edit: adding search words. How to change pressure menu for Resmed, Respironics, PR1, System 1 One posted above

This makes sense for certain kinds of information like certain software links, but I don't see the rationale for doing it for this information. A vendor may see that a link to a software download is being put out on a forum like this and may decide to put some form of security or validation on the download site. But the "secret hand shake" is not something that is feasible to change. So why keep it to PMs?

Intellipap autoadjust : hold "down arrow" and "ramp" buttons then turn machine on. Blower will start ( if you don't have latest firmware) and left /right arrows will scroll through options.

When I first saw the title to that, I thought, "We share tips on gas, bloating, and erectile dysfunction, but isn't this TOO MUCH INFORMATION??!!" (Course I couldn't click on it fast enough...)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Am very new, plus claustrophobic. I needed to have at least the comfort of knowing how & where to access the settings. I received my Remstar Auto system one AFlex from the truck driver delivery man. That was the end of the care provided! No follow-up visits or phone calls. Is it usual for the health care provider to allow you a month or so and then call?

If your machine says REMstar Auto A Flex, the correct Secret Hand Shake is for the System One. Nowhere on my machine, or in the instruction pamphlet, does it say that it is a System One. I first followed a link in one of the threads which offered pics of machines, then went to the Remstar site searching Auto A Flex where it said that the new Auto AFlex is "called the System One."

THAT is a LOUSY way to be introduced to your APAP, JayTee. But you aren't the first who has received their PAP in such a shoddy manner. What is AMAZING is that you received such a GOOD device from a local DME supplier who delivers your equipment that way. One would think that you will receive a phone call shortly to make an appointment to meet w/their RRT or someone on the staff to assist you w/mask fitting, explain your APAP, cleaning your equipment, etc. etc. But ...
given the way it was delivered, who knows what will transpire next??

It wouldn't surprise me if they showed up in 30 days to take this S1 APAP away from you and give you a very basic, bottom of the line, compliance data capable only device in its place. That is, IF you are even able to meet compliance during that first 30 days. Or maybe they let you use it for 90 days before swapping it out for some bottom of the line CPAP.

What insurance do you have? Is this the only local DME provider option your insurance allows you? What were the circumstances that led up to your receiving this APAP?

That sounds like Apria. That is how I received my Remstar Plus from them.

Read the paperwork carefully BEFORE signing and mailing. It sounds like it will be just a loaner and they WILL replace it with another lower end machine.

If both those are true you will need to come up with a Plan B and Plan C. So read here (this forum), Read and READ some more. You likely have Cigna and have no other choice but Apria right now. Call them, I understand things may be changing for them.

EDIT - perhaps things like these should get their own thread so we don't clog up the handshake for those looking for this critical info.

I would just like to know why they feel the need to hide the data from the patient? That just doesnt make sense to me.

I would think an educated patient would make for a healthier patient.
