Recovering from Nasal Surgery

Post by LSAT » Sat May 22, 2010 6:16 am

As I indicated in a previous post, I had surgery to remove nasal polyps and correct a deviated septum on Wed 5/19.
My post op instructions were to sleep elevated....no CPAP for 5-7 days. Well, I just finished my 3rd night without my CPAP.
I have not slept more than 4 hours a night for the past 3 nights. I kept waking up with my heart pounding...problibly from apnias. Even in a recliner you are sleeping on your back somewhat reclined. I have avoided taking sleep meds. I am depending on cat naps during the day. I will see my ENT on Monday and I hope he gives me the go ahead to resume CPAP...even at a slightly lower pressure.

Wow -- it's bad enough to have that surgery, but to have your sleep so badly disrupted. Crossing my fingers that your doctor gives you the okay to resume CPAP. And wishing you a speedy recovery.

I'm hoping you get back on your cpap soon and that the surgery makes it even better therapy!

All the best!

LSAT,
Hope you feel better and are back on your therapy soon! I'm not doubting your doctor, but what's the rationale for forgoing your cpap therapy? Seems like being rested would speed healing, but I could be wrong...

This surgery causes lots of bleeding. It took several hours for the bleeding to stop after the surgery. He was concerned with the pressure opening up the wound. Traditional 1st week recovery includes...no blowing the nose, sleeping upright, using a humidifier, no asprin products and,,,in my case...no CPAP.

I had a similar surgery about 9 years ago and the bleeding was horrible. And yep -- I remember the same thing. No blowing the nose, no aspirin. Being very careful. I didn't have a breathing machine then, but I can see the logic behind it.
