Plastic Smell with new Mask
I got two new mask styles today to try and one smells very strongly of plastic. It reeks. Anyone have a good way to make the mask less stinky?

Re: Plastic Smell with new Mask
I soak everything in hot water with Ivory liquid hand soap, for an hour or so. Then wash, rinse well, and spritz with a 50/50 vinegar/distilled water solution. Rinse, then let air dry, but not in the sun.
If it still smells, I might do the whole process again.

Re: Plastic Smell with new Mask
Letting them air out should get rid of the odor. It is always a good idea to wash new masks as KatieW has described to remove any manufacturing chemicals that may be present on the surface of the mask.
I buy masks ahead of time and carefully cut ventilation slits in the plastic bag so that the masks are exposed to air to allow the "new" smell go away while they are being stored prior to use. I would like to find some small porous cotton bags to store masks in; they would allow the masks to air out while they are being protected from contamination. Storing new hoses in ventilated bags also helps to rid them of the "new" smell.
