UREGENT CPAP Printable Tag

Post by CMorrison64 » Wed May 12, 2010 1:58 pm

Does anyone have a link to a tag to put on my machine for air travel tomorrow? The link to the mindspring one does not work. Thanks so much.

1st - this tag is not mandatory for travel. You can use any luggage tag.

If you still want it and PM your emale addy, I will send you a copy. It's in .pdf format.

GumbyCT is right YOU don't need a tag !
Here is a tag I RECOMMEND 'EVERYBODY" have with them and attached to luggage and it's FREE

It would be great if the PDF for the tag could be posted, perhaps in the Wiki.

While it's not strictly necessary, it's useful and I saw it once and have not been able to find it again.

I have been using CPAP for about 14 years and I fly several times a year -- I do not have and I have have never felt a need for any sort of medical ID tag for my CPAP. I have a small laminating machine and make laminated luggage tags from my business cards; I always make sure that all of my bags, both checked and carry on, have a luggage tag on them. It might even be a good idea for women to put a luggage tag on their purse while they are traveling by plane, train, bus, or ship.

Make sure that your home address and phone number are not visible on your luggage -- use your business address on your luggage tags or use a luggage tag that securely covers up your address and phone number.

I agree it is not necessary to have the tag. However, I have personally had the tag help explain that the device was medical equipment when the airport personnel did not understand the situation.

I use and recommend use of the tag from CPAP.com:

Thank you for posting this. I just filled it out and printed it, but didn't think to put down that I use a cpap. I did put down that I have sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes and what meds I'm taking so this would be a great thing for a person with multiple diagnosis should have in thier wallets. I'll make another and put it on my carry bag as well however, I don't travel by plane at all in fact don't travel hardly at all. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

I don't see how a printed card would trump these words 'imprinted' on the bottom of the machine -
"THIS IS A MEDICAL DEVICE MANUFACTURED BY RESPIRONICS INC.".

That should clear up any misunderstanding with airport personnel.

Well, think of it this way. Due to my neurological issues, under stress (like trying to get onto a flight) often speak as if I've had too much to drink. I occassionally am met with a poor (though understandable) attitude. The airport staff tend to think I am drunk. They think I don't understand that I can not take on an extra case. I just plunk the case down on the counter and flip the tag. Then I point to my Medic Alert bracelet. They start to get the idea that I'm not drunk, do understand my rights and I am allowed to take that extra piece of luggage onboard. Sure the words on the bottom explain it, but I honestly don't want to take everything out in the midst of airport chaos. The tag is MUCH easier for me.

I obviously need to make more assumptions (which I have learned not to do bc I am usually wrong) when reading here. Mea Culpa

GumbyCT, No "Mea Culpa" required! You asked a resonable question, in a reasonable, non-offensive manner. I provided a personal experience that showed why I use the tag. I'm certain there are hundreds/thousands of other reasons.

You pointed out that - under normal circumstances - the normal marking should suffice. I agree. And it is by challenging and questioning that we learn.

So, again, no "Mea Culpa" required!

In spite of the multiple opinions regarding use of a Medical Equipment tag on your CPAP bag, I have posted the tag that USED to be on mindspring to another filesharing site (4shared).

You can download it here: http://www.4shared.com/document/3K8sDBp ... _blue.html

This is the "blue" version. If anyone has the "red" and wants it available, I can upload it as well. I prefer the blue and don't have the red file.

I also started topic "CPAP Bag Tag -- download here" with the link. Will make for easy searching in the future, I hope.
