Hello: Max250 I recently experienced a similar scenario and believed me you will WAKE UP i know that i did instantly, i have the S9 bundle and it has been a great machine so far ,the only thing that i had to do after the power outage was to re-start the machine again, it did not loose any of the settings. As far as other power sources i have not research any as of this time but i'm incline to look into it just out of curiosity..i am fairly new to cpap so i cannot give much more information other than what i personally experience,i hope that this might help you some way .... Best Regards: Phil. M

What about something like an Universal Power Supply? Alot of people use them for their Computers so that they don't shut down in a power outage. It would have enough juice to deal with minor power outages with out messing with your cpap machine.
APAP Pressure of 12-20, EPR of 3, CMS-50F Oximeter, PapCap, and Regenesis Pillow. 200mg Provigil in the AM. Also diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia.

If the interruption is short (ie only a few seconds), will the S9 and h5i (which I think will be the machines I will be buying), immediatly continue what they were doing as if nothing had happened or would they need to be manually re-started and will I also have to input all the settings again or just switch back on?
2. If the power dosent immediatly come straight back on, will the mask with no pressure, and with me asleep, suffocate me by having no or little air supply at all with the pump off?
I live on an island myself, Long Island NY, and have the same electrical problems as you do. I've had an S8 Elite 2, and now have an S8 Vpap auto. When the power has gone out, which it has SEVERAL times, all my settings have stayed the same, includingthe clock!!!! When the power has gone out while I was asleep, my machines started right back up again on their own when the power came back on, because I have them set for auto-start. If my S8's have that feature, I can only guess that the S9's would have it also.

No worries about suffocating when the power goes off, you can breathe just fine with the vents on the mask.

We seem to lose power on occasion where i live. When we lost it when i was sleeping i woke up right away and pulled the hose off my mask. I waited for the power to kick back in and put the hose back on and fell back asleep.

I use a Battery Geek li-ion CPAP battery that, according to Battery Geek, is designed to leave plugged in. My CPAP has both an AC power input and a DC power input and it automatically switches to DC power when the power goes out.

I leave my battery plugged into AC power and I leave my CPAP plugged into the battery. My CPAP normally operates from AC power and automatically switches to battery power when the AC power fails. The battery is charged from AC power as necessary when it is available.

I find it more than stunning that ResMed is saying this. Rebreathing unexpelled air leading to suffocation???

Every mask has CO2 vents which blow out the CO2 when your cpap is running. But those same vents allow some O2 to be drawn in as you breathe without the cpap running. I have done it a number of times due to storms, etc. (Edit: ...and I think I am alive, if not well!!) Granted that it would not be a good night's sleep to breathe O2 this way all night. But for heaven's sake, it's NOT going to suffocate you!! Can you give the link where you read this? And as others have mentioned, it is common for many folks to wake immediately, or soon after power shuts off.

Personally, I'd decide on another machine if you have no reason to believe your therapy will be somehow better with the ResMed system.

Say thank you to lawsuits.

If you are interested in a longer duration battery backup unit, the following post will show how I built a battery backup unit. You can take and adjust it to meet your needs.

Now I know that my Respironics ComfortGel FFM has a valve that automatically opens when air pressure stops. You can see it open and close. I have not looked at my Resmed because I don't use it very often. I more often use a nasal mask, so I don't worry too much about that--my mouth will open if I am not getting adequate air through the mask. I do worry about having an extended outage and not being able to use my CPAP though.

We do lose power here at night on occassion, and I always wake up immediately. The sudden silence makes me wake up as soon as the CPAP stops humming and the ceiling fan stops turning. Most of the time the interruption is only a few seconds and my answering machine, which is next to my bed, starts talking and resetting itself as soon as it power flickers, and there is no sleeping through that. As long as my mask is on and it the CPAP is set to auto, as soon as I start breathing, the CPAP comes right back on. I think dying in my sleep from the power going off while using a CPAP is less likely than dying from complications of not using one
