Swift LT nasal pillows - replacement schedule?

Post by Angela1981 » Thu May 13, 2010 1:34 pm

How do you know when it is time to replace the nasal pillows? My insurance will pay for once a month replacement and I've already met my deductible for the year so I'll be sure to get replacements every 30 days. I'm just wondering how I know when it is time to replace them? The ones I am using now are the original ones I was given and I've been using them for about 5 weeks. I've noticed the last few days that something doesn't feel right with them but I don't know if it's just me still settling in to using them or if it is time to replace them.

Of course it doesn't help that I used them for a couple of nights with one of the little nasal canula thingies inside out. Gah.

I'm also not clear when I should be replacing mine, but the weird part is that my local DME (Lincare) has never called me to pimp a replacement in the 6-7 months I have used them. I did get a new LT when I got my S9 Autoset last month and figured I would get a call this month for sure.

Not sure if I should be pleased I am not getting called endlessly by the DME or not.

Well, I have to say I'm kinda surprised I haven't heard from the DME either. They told me I would get a postcard in the mail each month reminding me about the replacement supplies but I haven't heard a peep. I am planning to stockpile all the supplies I can get for free this year since I've met my deductible so that hopefully I can minimize my expenses next year. There was a complicated replacement schedule for all of the various parts. Some were 30 days (like the nasal pillows) and some were 3 months and 6 months (the hose I think) and then there were other replacement schedules for the bits and pieces of the mask itself. It all sounded very complicated.

I'd just like to know how I know it's time to replace the various bits and not have to rely on their predetermined schedule.

I find I have to replace the pillows every month. Unfortunately, the manufacturer makes them out of shotty material. I understand they used to be of a better quality. Oh well!
