Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I've been on cpap for almost a month now. Even though I wouldn't categorize my sleep as "refreshing" as they call it at the sleep lab I'm not dragging quite as much during the day.
Time to do something about my weight. According to my "mostly defunct over the last few months" spreadsheet I started the year at 203.5 pounds (5'5"). This morning I weighed in at 212.5. A gain of 9 pounds over the last five months.
Most weight charts I've seen for my age and height have me at 145 pounds. Now, considering I was 145 when I was 17 and went from a high school wrestling season to track to basic training with the army 145 just isn't a realistic goal for a 40 year old father. 155-160 hmmm, should be doable.
Right now I'm starting to walk (I went five miles today through the neighborhood). Eventually I want to get to jogging and weight training again.
Does anyone here want to try a "keep us honest" group by posting weekly or so how we're doing on fitness goals? I've seen it done on other sites and think it's a good idea.
Also, I'm using a program called jog tracker on my droid for my walks. It's a free program that maps your path via gps and gives you your time a distance with the map. If you login to their website (also free) you can friend others. If anyone else is using the program (or is using another free program) I'm looking for some friends, again, to keep me honest.

Count me in, will check if my Palm Pre has a similiar tracking application, if not, pen and paper will do. Current stats, 46 year old male 6' 2" 364 lbs started CPAP in March 2010. My ideal weight according to charts is 178 - 195, I'll be thrilled to hit 220, my marriage weight when I was 20 years old. I guess I'll need to post some stats next Monday. Maybe I'll be able to change my usere name to LiLAN when this is done.
Diagnosed March 2010, Severe OSA (so thats why I'm so tired) Let the journey begin.

Hi, I am also wanting to lose weight. I want to lose about 75lbs. I am going to be using Weight Watchers, and my treadmill and walking my dogs LOL. Count me in if you decide to start a thread about losing weight.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I've been on a diet and excerise routine since last October. Y'all wouldn't believe the difference from last October until now. I've dropped 20 pounds and about 6 inches off my waist. I've got a pair of black shorts that, in January, I lacked about 2 inches being able to button. Now, I button them up, they are snug but not tight, and I call them my "mirical shorts", because its a mirical I ever got back into them. I'd love to join up with y'all.
Sincerely,
Sarge

i recently started this program. i'm fit enough to do the sprints, but if that is too much, you can just use the incline on a treadmill or stationary bike.
check it out.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I lost 50lbs without adopting a new exercise program. Ankylosing Spondylitis makes it difficult to keep up a regular program. I know that I should try do more but sometimes my ass aches too much.
I read a ton of stuff and these two things are basic rules to design your own weight loss program:
Losing weight means cutting back on how much you eat and retraining yourself on what you eat. The main rule of losing weight is portion control.
Exercising should not be done primarily to lose weight unless you intend to adopt a routine for the rest of your life. Exercising is for getting fit.

Lost 50 lbs through diet and exercise. Started January and continue with current regiment. I'm, 6"-2", 210lbs. I started at 260lbs. I am 51 years old and my target weight is 205lbs as I am large framed. I feel 100% better.... physically and mentally.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I am down 80 pounds since November 3rd of last year with a goal of about 180 at Xmas time. I have been on sort of a plateau and only lost 8 pounds in the last month even though I didn't change anything. I seem to be back on track now.
As far as posting my weight loss each week I think it is a good idea but not for me. I have my own very superstitious way of tracking my weight and that would possibly jinx it.
As far as how I diet it is 25 minutes on the treadmill each morning followed by working a single body part each day with the solo-flex. No working out on Saturdays and Sundays. Plus I have a re-feed day on Thursday when I up my calories to about 2500 for the day.
Good luck to everyone

Cool, looks like there's some interest. I'm going to be weighing myself on Monday mornings so will post then.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I have been trying to start weight loss since last summer. Every time I get 5 lbs off something in my life goes wrong. I was going to the gym in the fall then I got sick, Healthy again January and started the low carb diet and got pneumonia. My daughters shopped for me and bought mama lots of treats - chocolate, candies, pastry, pizza, bagels instead of the salads and chicken I asked for.
Now I am trying to get some exercise in but I am working over time to catch up for a month off work.
So I asked for weights and exercise equipment for mothers day - I got baking pans instead. I think they are trying to kill me with kindness.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
Congrats to all of you who have lost weight!
I've been on a diet since l950. haha Just kidding. But weight has been a life-long struggle, ever since puberty.
I know I do alot of emotional eating, but I'm also convinced that something is wrong with my biochemistry. I can honestly say that there have been very few times in my life when I was NOT hungry.
I know that carbs make me hungry. Its not uncommon for me to be alot more hungry after eating, than before. I get so weary of being hungry all the time.
I have lost weight throughout my life, and put it back on. Right now I'm 5'6" and about 205#. The thing with me is that even if I eat very healthily for several months and lose weight and am very content, I have rebound hunger. Its like my body thinks its starving and makes me hungry so I'll pack it all back on.
No matter what the reason........whether I've been dieting, or I've been sick, if I start eating less, it always leads to an uncontrollable appetite afterwards.
I do eat too much, but I also eat good things........salmon, lots of veggies, no fried food, etc.
I do wonder about my sleep though. Even though my numbers are acceptable, I think I'm still constantly being stressed with sleep issues, and that can produce cortisol, which makes you hungry.
And of course, the older I get, the harder it is to get the weight off. I'm just not into doing all the things to lose weight that I did when I was younger. I'm constantly hungry and I'm constantly denying myself and trying to keep my appetite under control. Its a bummer.
Thanks for listening to me ramble.
I DO think type O blood types have more eating probs.

Re: Is anyone trying to lose weight?
I could use some of your inspiration, too. Maybe you all will inspire me to exercise. I've been doing an old Weight Watchers program with the exchanges (mostly from memory) but, after losing 85 pounds, I've been stuck since last September, still following it. I have a good bit more to lose, too. This might be just what I need. Don't think I can post my weight. That's my secret. Even my kids don't know how much weight I've lost.
